I booked a room at this motel after reading a good review for an inexpensive room and I admit the name made me think of The Sands Motel in Las Vegas. It is not a modern motel but I'm fine with that. The room I had was quite large, the heater worked well. It had a small fridge and microwave,... More

We hit Grants at dusk and went for this old Sands motel leftover from the 1950's where the $42/night price was right. The toilet is cranky and the rug has lots of stains but the bath is clean and there are new turquoise and red bedspreads.

Former neon-lit motel on old Route 66. Today, poorly cared for piece of history on the Mother Road. Hotel desk clerk's English was very hard to understand. Didn't have any record of my reservation (not that one was needed). Fought with room door lock for several moments before gaining entry. No smoking room had a heavy sprayed-over smell. An assortment... More

If you're looking for a nice, contemporary motel, this is not for you. If you want a nostalgic, Route 66 hotel at a value price, then I recommend the Sands Motel. Mind you, the room is small and simple, and could use some updating, but it was clean. It's also a little further from the train tracks than most of... More

On Booking.com they gave this motel a three star rating and it was $70 a night and it looked good online.................OMG.............when we got there , there was some guy working on his truck and the door lock would not unlock, but I got it unlocked the price was $44 a night , the room smelled , not good a real... It has a coupon in the I-40 Travel Guide that you pick up at the Arizona Welcome Center and also at the New Mexico Welcome Center in Gallup, and when I'd called to check prices for a weekly room this one quoted me a slightly lower rate than the one across the street, the Southwest Motel, but as other reviewers... Given the budget price this was a friendly place, fairly quite (half block off old 66) and well located. Wi-Fi and coffee/donuts in morning a bonus. Really everything worked well or near-enough and I felt comfortable here

This motel is a Route 66 time warp and all the more fun for that. Yes, it's old and can't match current standards, but it's cheap and conveniently located on the main drag. BUT - it looks as if the current team isn't keeping on top of the maintenance issues: in our room (107), the bedside clock radio had a... More

I wanted to stay at an old Route 66 motel, so I chose this place. The price was very reasonable, the front desk staff was friendly and helpful.......even offering to let me use their front desk computer to check my email! Very small continental breakfast was offered, which was nice, I hate having to look for a restaurant first thing... More

This a an older motel consistent with Route 66 ties. I was so hesitant to stay I asked to see rooms before committing. I was pleasantly surprised. My room was clean and comfortable. Sure there are age issues but everything was in working order and the price was right. The family that owns this motel are very nice and gracious.
