I recently spent two nights at this lovely inn in Gettysburg. The owners greeted us together and showed us around the property, making sure we spotted the tea, coffee, and cookies available in the dining room, as well as the sitting room in the basement with bottled water and glasses for enjoying your own wine (or other beverages). The outdoor... More

Like many others, reading "The Killer Angels" stirred my desire to see and experience Gettysburg to the point that over the years it reached "bucket list" status. As we live overseas (in Bangkok) a visit wasn't quite as simple a task as it would be for someone living back in the States, so it finally was added on as part... More

So glad you enjoyed the bounty of our summer garden. We enjoy preparing a tasty breakfast every day but especially when we have fresh from the garden produce. This week we are baking zucchini bread (8 loaves already!). Nice meeting you folks and I would say "come again" but it is a long trip from Bangcok for sure. More

The hosts greeted us warmly and made us feel right at home from the instant we walked through the door. The property was used as a hospital during the battle at Gettysburg. Today it is comfy and inviting. After getting a tour of the property and settling in to our simple but tasteful rooms, we met on the veranda to... More

We were visiting a civil war battlefield in northern Maryland and decided to see if we could get a room at the Lightner Farmhouse. To my surprise, when I called, the inn keeper recognized me by voice and invited us to come visit and spend the night or two. Of course it was very much like visiting family. Everything was... More

Our family was surprised by the Harley biker event occurring in town the same weekend we began our vacation here. Yet the Lightner Farmhouse was a world away from the modern rumbles. We loved the uniqueness of the attic Pine Suite with separate sleeping area for parents and kids. There were thoughtful touches on both sides from the mini water... More

The Lightner Farmhouse B& B is beautiful, that's true. BUT, though my husband and I booked The Walnut Cottage, for our romantic, history-filled getaway anniversary and what we hoped would be a beautiful holiday, it was anything but....What was supposed to be "our own lovely, private view of the historic grounds" from our own little, private porch, turned out to... This was very distressing to us as well and we tried to remedy the situation quickly but the guests refused every suggestion. We could not get a plumber in at 9:30 PM when we were notified of the problem but the shower was fixed by 10:30 AM, thirteen hours after the malfunction was reported. Again, it was upsetting to all... More

Historic b and b that was used as a hospital in civil war. Congenial hosts and great food. Near the visitor center and downtown shops, but situated on many picturesque acres. Only one king sized bed suite, but our queen sized was fine.

My husband and I recently stayed two nights at the Lightner house. It was our first visit to Gettysburg (or PA, for that matter) and we were really looking forward to doing some serious sightseeing! We really enjoyed our quiet & peaceful stay at this delightul B&B. Upon our arrival, Eileen & Dennis were there to warmly welcome us (despite... More

Stayed in early June 2015. Room was nice and air conditioned. Private bath was fine given the nature of the house. Breakfast was good but only one main course offered, no options. Nice garden and walking paths. On Saturday mornings a local historian gives a 30 minute talk about the impact of the battle on the community itself. The owners... More

Just returned from an overnight at the Lightner B&B.Though I believe they have a two night min. They were able to accommodate our one night stay this weekend without a problem. The house is a few miles out of town, which was a refreshing change from our usual stay in town in Gettysburg. It's just a short drive to the... More

We are happy to accommodate a one night stay on a weekend if the room is previously booked for either Friday or Saturday and leaves a one night opening. It's always worth a phone call to check on that. Glad you enjoyed the history talk by Lisa who tells the story of the civilian experience in July 1863. And thanks... More
