The whole time I was there was wonderful except 2 things. 1. was having to climb four flights of stairs. 2. the smell of cat pee on the first floor. Other than that, it was a wonderful vew and close to everything. The house was beautiful and if you're on Kathy (owner's) good side, she has so much great hospitality.... more

I just stayed at the Columns while attending a conference and really enjoyed my stay. The rooms were clean and included very interesting antiques, the food was fine, and I liked the innkeeper quite a bit. When I said I wasn't feeling well after a turbulent flight, she went out of her way to give me some tea and lozenges.... more

I was in Philadelphia with some friends for a conference at the Marriott on Market Street but as it was full and expensive, The Columns seemed like a charming alternative from the online description (can't find that review now funnily enough though...). Initially we were delighted, the rooms were well designed with interesting wallpaper, fittings and books, each with a... more

I stayed here recently for a conference held in town having arranged to meet some friends there that I had not seen in some time, the owner obviously saw me as some kind of agent since I had put my friends in touch with this place - needless to say I got off lightly compared to them. On arrival I... more

If the overwhelming stench of mildew, the filth and clutter “hidden” in every corner and behind furniture, and the biting bug infestation are not enough to convince you to stay elsewhere, spend five minutes with the owner. Upon first meeting she simply appears abrasive and rude, but once she warms up, she is downright abusive. I can’t imagine a person... more

I stayed one night at Columns and it was quite possibly the worst B&B experience I've ever had. While this large house is in a lovely location, the breakfast was unpalatable, the house was cluttered and dirty, and the innkeeper's behavior was appallingly. Another B&B, Antique Row, was full and they recommended Columns. When we called to make a reservation,... more

My wife had to undergo knee surgery at the Philadelphia Hospital the week of Thanksgiving. I stayed at the Columns for a few days while she underwent her surgery. I was alone and terrified because of her upcoming surgery. The owner of the B&B Kathy treated me as if I was one of the family. She even went so far... more

I stayed at the Columns on Clinton, and while the property was almost livable, the experience was made practically unbearable by the vile manners of the owner, Kathy. When we arrived (we were later than she had been told by the booking company we would arrive, but this is travel--one does not always arrive at an exact time) she actually... more

My family stayed at this bed and breakfast over Memorial Day weekend. I have very mixed feelings about this b&b. Pros: It is on a beautiful tree-lined street in historic Philadelphia which is walking distance to all of the sites, and a cool destination in itself. The house is a gorgeous, four-story brick house that was built in the 1800s... more
