We stayed at The Gables while we were house hunting and could not have picked a better base of operations. The inn itself is stunning – amazing architecture, perfectly decorated in period antiques, but with all the comforts of home. The owners are gracious hosts, making sure you have everything you need, and helping you find all that’s best about... more

Traveling every week for work, nothing feels better than getting back home. Well the Gables Bed and Breakfast comes awful close. A beautiful Victorian home, overflowing with charm. The home is filled with beautiful antiques, yet modern comforts are not overlooked. Each bedroom has a story and in a matter a minutes you feel transported back in time. I’m not... more

We recently stayed at the Gables while attending a conference at the U. of Penn. We enjoyed our stay very much. It was convenient to everything by trolley or bus. The rooms were clean and were as pleasant as advertised. We live in an old house and are not unfamiliar with antiques and collectables, but we were unprepared for the... more

I recently spent four nights at Gables, which is in fact charming with Halloween decorations and a cute dog named Oscar. The owner, however, treated me as a class lower than himself, which I have never encountered before in a hotel or a B&B or anywhere, to be honest, and will never do so since I will never go back... more

Management response from
Philabnb, owner/innkeeper

I have never felt the need to respond to any other review that we have received realizing that everyone's opinion is subjective. We work hard to do our best to treat everyone equally and I think in reading other reviews you will see that generally we are successful in that goal. Needless to say, I was taken back to read...

As an American expat living in France and travelling in Europe for over twenty-five years, I can safely say I have never stayed in a hotel or b and b to rival the Gables for comfort, hospitality, affordability and sheer esthetic pleasure together. I have had two ten-day stays there in the last year (the first accompanied by my seventeen-year-old... more

The people that complain about this beautiful place should probably stay in a hotel and not a B&B. This is a large house that was once home to a well-to-do family. It has been faithfully restored and updated. But it is still a house and not built as a hotel. If you like B&Bs you will most likely really like... more

I stayed at the Gables for one night with my boyfriend, in The South Room, and I enjoyed it. We had a little trouble finding the place, as they don't have a big sign, but we enjoyed the walk (from Market Street till the house), as it was a nice and safe neighbourhood; I'm not very sure but the things... more

My husband and I had high hopes for the Gables B&B - rated as Philly's #1 B&B. Well, we were disappointed! We arrived on a Friday night, and were greeted by a woman who quickly shuffled us to our room, which was fine. The room was cold, but a space heater was available. I had specifically requested our room because... more

I have stayed here twice in the last four years while visiting my daughter at U Penn, and both times were excellent. The building is a large, Victorian house about a 10 - 15 minute walk from Penn. the neighborhood is residential and improving, and there are some good retaurants nearby. The accomodatoins are very comfortable, the breakfasts large and... more

This place is incredible. The owners, Warren and Don could not have been more pleasant and accomodating. They have owned the place for 15 years and have decorated it over time with loving care...beautiful antique by beautiful antique. The care and attention to detail shine through. I mean gorgeous stuff, nothing cheesy about this place. The wide front porch is... more
