OK, we knew it was a bit rustic when we made the reservation. We upgraded to an executive room in the lagoon lodges. The room itself was huge, the furniture was lumpy, the sad excuse for curtains didn't actually cover the windows all the way nor did they block much light. The bathroom (compared to the size of the overall... More

We enjoyed another delightful day and night at the Captain Whidbey this past weekend. Inn rooms are small, warm, and very cozy. Shared bathrooms are clean, well supplied, and private. Madrona log walls, creaky flooring, old stone fireplace, ship models, stunning views, fine loaner books, and a real sense of a prior time are to us a special retreat. LIke... More

We chose the Captain Whidbey Inn to experience an old inn. It is beautifully decorated and feels charming, however the walls in the main inn are paper thin. When we were there most rooms were unoccupied so sharing the bathrooms was not a problem. There is one bathroom for women and one for men, both with one shower. They also... More

My daughter & I booked in last minute to spend Christmas with friends who had booked there previously. I gave the hotel clerk our friends name and confirmed that we were coming to spend Christmas with them and would require Christmas dinner. I told him I was fussy so would prefer a nicer room over cost. Upon arrival another clerk... More

My friend was given a weekend at the Captain Whidbey Inn for Christmas and she invited me to go in January. Check in was average... We were supposed to stay in a room inside the hotel, but when we saw how small the beds and rooms were, plus the fact there was a shared bathroom/shower with other guests, we requested... More

A photo on the inn's website shows a cozy lounge/reception area with a fire roaring in a large wood-burning fireplace. We were anticipating the idea of doing some reading by the fire in the late afternoon or evening. However, when we checked in on a Tuesday, we were told they only light the fire Wednesday-Sunday when the restaurant is open.... More

We arrived Friday 11/14/14 and were greeted very nicely. After checking in, we had a meal in the dining room. The staff (especially Felicia) was VERY friendly and the food was amazing and the portions were big. The Continental Breakfast was nice too. We stayed until Tuesday 11/18/14 and EVERYONE we met (staff and guests) were VERY friendly. The staff... More

We came in on a dark and stormy night, ready to have a quick meal and get to bed. Then, we found out that the restaurant isn't open on Monday or Tuesday nights. It was a little dark and spooky, walking to our rooms and we peeked into one and saw four big animal heads, mounted on the wall! I... More

The Captain Whidbey is a quaint inn in a beautiful location. And for a group of writers, we appreciated the character and inspiration. The staff at the Inn helped make our event a success. They were well organized and professional. The Lagoon Rooms were spacious with great views. The only issues were with the WiFi and phone reception. They were... More

Seduced by the advertising we were disappointed by the offhand reception, the room did not has any hanging space at all for our clothing and two of the three drawers in the chest were occupied by bedding. We ordered salmon sandwiches in the tavern and 80 minutes later were served a tough and tasteless burger!
