Enjoyed a lovely evening meal with my adult sons in the tavern which exceeded my expectations, it was more sort of upscale rustic than a pub-ish setting, reflected in the menu choices as well as the ambiance. The entire feeling of the Inn has a classy, quiet elegance in the albeit rustic wood surrounding. The mostly male staff were seasoned,... More

I recently spent a nice weekend at the Inn, upstairs in the main building. Having read many reviews, I was prepared for washrooms down the hall, the soft mattress, and non-existent sound-proofing, so I wasn't surprised to hear my neighbors or all the activity in the lobby, dining room and pub downstairs. Only 2 of the 10 rooms in the... More

My husband and I are currently at the inn. We are staying in the lodge upstairs in room 3 and will be checking out in the morning. I am sure my husband wished there was a TV and he's tall enough so he keeps bonking his head when he goes down the stairs. But I absolutely love this place! I... More

Our room had a European (shared) bathroom. We were on the island for a weekend farmers conference. Breathtaking views of Penn Cove and the Sound. There is little insulation in this historic building. You could hear a person with a persistent cough hack from 6 rooms away. If you are a light sleeper you may want to pay more and... More

We had one of the most expensive cabins and were rather horrified when we walked in. It was a bit shabby and had obviously not been updated in years. There was a heater on our deck but it didn't work. I asked for another pillow and was told they would bring it when they had time. The towel rack fell... More

We stayed in room 3 in the inn . There are rooms in the lodge and cabins where you do not have to share a bathroom with the other guests,If this is not a problem this Inn is the place to stay . The grounds slope right down to the sea ... a morning seal and heron greet you in... More

The main building of this hotel is very charming and the setting is magnificent: it is a heavily wooded property with water views everywhere. It is a shame, therefore, that the rooms are so dowdy. We were in the Lagoon building and the bedding & curtains should be tossed. The furniture was 60s shabby, not antique quaint. The sink was... More

Our experience here was nothing short of so classical romantic and wonderful!!! We stayed in 2 different rooms to experience the hotel, firstly overlooking the lagoon and secondly a cabin overlooking the ocean. We had the most fabulous gourmet dinner I can recall having in a long time in the stunning historic dining room. All the staff, from the reception,... More

We enjoyed our stay here - the inn itself is really beautiful, atmospheric and perfectly situated right on the sea. The gardens are also really lovely. The food was good and the staff are really friendly. It's a bit of a shame though that the rooms themselves let it down. We had a lagoon room and it was fine but... More

The Capt. Whidbey is exactly what you would expect from a rustic landmark hotel. I could best compare it to Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood or a variety of hotels in Yellowstone Park. It is well kept, clean, comfortable, homey and quaint. Great personable staff and world class view of Penn Cove perfect for Orca watching. Only downside was the... More
