I had read the reviews, and decided to give the hotel a chance. Reserved Martha's Room. Where to start? A hole in the carpet by the roomdoor was "patched" with duct tape. The bathroom was a health hazard. Showerhead broken, shower filthy, hot water from the sink - even when using the cold water knob. Mystery objects floating in the... more

We just took a trip to Cumberland Island and stayed at the funky Riverview Hotel for the first time. We had heard mixed reviews but we decided to check it out anyway because it was so close to the ferry. Our room was on the corner looking out over the river and main street. The rooms are named after former... more

We had the best vacation ever at the Riverview Hotel in St. Marys. After camping om Cumberland Island for a few days we stayed at the quirky Riverview Hotel to relax before heading back home. The rooms were average but normal for the period it was built circa 1916. We understood after talking to the owner Jerry that he was... more

The hotel is located in a lovely spot, and has lots of history attached. The staff is warm and friendly, and very accomodating. The rooms are "adequately" clean but worn, and though full of lovely antique furniture, are sadly neglected, needing a good cleaning and polishing. The public rooms are friendly and service is excellent (bar and restaurant). The continental... more

My husband and I stayed at the Riverside the last weekend in January. The owners were very accommodating in allowing me to check in early, 11AM, as my husband had to drop me off and continue on to a meeting in Jacksonville. Although the room was not ready, I was able to drop my things and go explore the town... more

I already wrote a review earlier...BUT was BEFORE I returned again this year. (Do not know why I called their restaurant "Skylar's...oops! Senior moment!) Unfortunately the restaurant was closed on Mondays so I had to skip their delicious Rock shrimp this trip. Had a wonderful eve..the sunset from the Veranda perfect, and the Bag piper playing as it set was... more

Recently i stayed at the riverview hotel,on my way to stay on cumberland isle. The front desk clerk was informative about restaurants and general knowledge of the area . They had parking on the front of the hotel and on the side. The Hotel is noticeably in need of renovation. I inquired of the proprieters of the riverview, what were there... more

Ok, I loved the Riverview! The history alone was exciting to me. Now, while I understand the peeling wallpaper and the chipped window frames, to me it's part of the charm, I have to agree with the others that the cleaning could be better. The sheets and towels were clean and carpets free of visible dirt. I did read ahead... more

This hotel has great potential for being historic and quaint and while I admit I did not see all of the rooms we had to leave after our first night because we could not tolerate the filth. I was traveling with my daughter so we were not interested in the bar, but maybe that would have made the place look... more

Well... We just returned from our vacation, which included a stay at the Riverview. We were suposed to stay two nights, but changed our mind about going to Cumberland and shortened it to one night... After spending a night at the Riverview I was thankful we didn't stay again. Starting with the positive... it is convenient to "downtown." The price... more
