My partner and I recently spent just over a week staying at the Gershwin Hotel, and we were really impressed. The location is excellent; right on the corner of bustling Fifth Avenue, just a couple of blocks from the Empire State Building and close to the 28th Street Subway station, meaning that popular tourist areas such as Times Square, the... Having spent hours trying to find somewhere to stay in New York that was reasonably located and didn't break the bank, we stumbled across the Gershwin. It's undergoing some major renovation so we requested one of the "new" rooms, which was stylishly decorated and spotless, albeit so small that we could barely fit ourselves and the suitcase in at the... This is a real gem of a hotel situated right in the Flatiron district just around the corner from the Empire State Building. I shared a twin room with my friend and while the room was not huge, it had very comfortable double beds, lovely soft sheets and a design with real attention to detail - tiles with a musical... More

We weren't looking for a 5 star Hotel. But we found 5 star everything here. What a great caring staff they have there. Our new room was very nice. The air con was new and perfect. And my wife and I loved the glass shower. I wish we could've took the bed home with us also. Everyone was so pleasant... More

Hotel rooms themselves are ok, but no views of the city at all. And the room themselves feel dark. The concierage staff is not that helpful and they barely speak english which doesnt help the situation. Don't expect the bellman to bring your bags right away or to have ice brought to your room immediately; took them at least 30... More

Great location and the people are very nice. The room was updated and lovely. There aren't many amenities at least not when I stayed there but this was a business trip for me so the great location and cute room made up for this. Don't let the construction deter you. This is nice hotel.

Slowest elevator ever, no coffee at hotel, nor coffee maker in room. No draws or bathroom counter. Super comfy bed, nice decor, clean & friendly staff. Don't love area...but that's a personal preference. Definitely not a bad stay, but I probably would not choose this property on my next trip here to NYC.

as the hotel is renovating, it could be noisy and the only workable elevator was slow too. Yet, other than that, I love this hotel, it's surprisingly clean, nice, vintage. I am sure I will not get the same rate on my next visit, it will be a great boutique hotel.

WOW I have stayed at this hotel several times and I love the location but the hotel was in DESPERATE need of a remodel. Now on my return to the hotel the remodel has begun and it is amazing, the details in the rooms are wonderful and I loved the bathroom with the sheet music tile, also the chandeliers that... More

Gorgeous Hotel... small, neat, beautiful room with musical details. I loved the style of the entire building. The only problem is the elevator which is VERY slow. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Gershwin is now offering newly residential inspired rooms with references to an Art Nouveau Style. Our NoMad hotel is inspired by the musical and art heritage of the neighborhood, which was the epicenter of the popular music industry in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The music theme is reflected throughout the rooms, corridors and bathrooms. The NoMad District (now also known as "NoMad" - North of Madison Square Park) is now one of Manhattan's most popular neighborhoods, characterized by its beautiful and historic architecture, exceptional bars and restaurants tucked away on quiet side streets, and many other attractions. Centered around Madison Square Park, the NoMad District is within walking distance of Midtown, Union Square, Greenwich Village, and NYU. ... more   less
