Very quiet and friendly atmosphere, friendly front desk team. The whole first floor made of armoury. The room, junior suite, was big and air condition worked fine. The bathroom is very clean but taking a shower is a matter of getting used to wall-fixed shower head. In total it is a very classic furnished surrounding. The fitness room is open... More

The Avalon in NYC is a gorgeous renovated old hotel on the east side of 32 St. Old world marble lobby, updated amenities, beautiful bathrooms. It's convenient to mid town, Penn Station, the Flatiron district, Madison Sq. Park. Close to Korea town for excellent BBQ etc. Easy transport on almost every subway line. Very nice helpful staff. Well run hotel.

We took our adult son to NYC just before Christmas; we used to live there and have been visiting for 40 years. I found the Avalon online. We had never stayed in this part of Manhattan before, and we're sold! Close to Times Square and 5th Avenue, and the transportation inks are great -- lines 1-6 plus N and R... More

Dear Thayersn, Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on TripAdvisor about your recent stay at the Avalon Hotel New York. It is appreciated. Halfway through my vacation and I wish I spent more time looking for a Hampton. The AVALON hasn't been worth the money. I've had to request toiletries when we ran out, called for coffee for the coffee machine, washed out previous nights cups, the coffee maker in the library ran out of coffee, they don't cash traveler checks, the bldg is... We had never stayed here before, so we were quite excited. This is an old hotel, that has been kept fairly well, although there are signs of wear and tear. We were given a smoking room (didn't know hotels still had them any more). So, we switched. The new room had a bathroom door that wouldn't shut, so the maintenance... More

We stayed here for 4 for a girls' long weekend in New York. Ok, "girls" might be a bit of an exaggeration- we were celebrating our 50th birthdays... My wife and I stayed at the Avalon from the 4th of May for 5 nights. The location is excellent, just around the corner from the ESB, turn left out of the hotel and its only 6 minutes walk to Herald square subway station and turn right its only 3minutes walk to 33rd street station on Park Avenue. The room... More

My idea of a boutique hotel is small and chic. I found this hotel rather depressing. Great location if you want to be next to the Empire State building and great for shopping on 34 th street near to Macy's the biggest department store in the world BUT I found the hotel itself very soulless with tired decor and the... Great boutique hotel in the middle of Korea town. Close to everything and rooms are well maintained. Hotwire messed up the booking but hotel staff took care of everything and made things right and bumped us up to a two queen bed suite.

Breakfast was good & plentiful with cereals fruit pastries etc, but no hot food available. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again.

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
