Depressing institution. The airco was noisy and broken. I paid for the upgrade to the upper floors with a private bedroom shared bath. The T.V did not work. I asked to fix it or change it. Nothing was done to solve my problem. It rained and the water leaked in my ceiling onto the bed. The toilets were very dirty... more

I stayed at YMCA West Side for 4 nights in October. I arrived in NYC on my own and I'd never been there before. I booked in the YMCA as I could not find any reasonably priced hotel accommodation in Manhattan. The place is extremely depressing -I didn't mind the tiny room or unpleasant shared lavatories -this does reflect the... more

11th floor tired and not exactly highly-polished, but basically clean and tidy. Toilets a bit scary - I used the gym downstairs! Upper floors with "private" bathrooms (ie shared use, but with lockable doors) possibly worth the extra. Take earplugs - the doors bang at all hours. And be nice - try shutting your door quietly at least! Great for... more

The stay at this hotel was horrible... Bathroom wasn't working, and showers were not really clean. The AC were noisy so it wasn't possible to sleep correctly. I really don't advise this hotel!! more

This place isn't luxurious by any means but don't let that put you off. The rooms are more than adequate and you aren't likely to be spending much time in there. The location is perfect - right by the park. You are far enough away from the main tourist areas to enjoy the peace and quiet of the upper west... more

Rooms stank of smoke despite non-smoking rules. I worked out it was the cleaners. (buy a glade plug-in to get rid of the smell-this worked nicely). Quiet, but school kids talking in the corridors late at night was a bit annoying. Warm, basic room, had TV. Bed was comfortable for sleeping. Shared bathroom wasn't great the women's showers only had... more

We stayed at the YMCA for four nights in September during a longer visit to New York. This place has both its advantages and disadvantages: It's in a really good location - literally a stone's throw from central park and it doesn't take very long to get to areas such as Times Square. We paid $110 a night to stay... more

I stayed here for 5 days in September 2009. I have stayed in many hostels and this one was ok in camparison. The rooms was sufficent (i had a private room no ensuite for myself), had tv and aricon. Unlike other reviews, i thught the bathrooms were always clean. On the floor i stayed on, the bathrooms were all separate... more

I've stayed in the hotel for 3 days on the Labour Day. Since I am a solo traveler I didn't need any special comfort or a huge room, so the room was pretty small but it had everything I needed: a single bed, wardrobe, table, chair and a big mirror (which is important for girls :)) Then the bathrooms are... more

As I visited New York with my school I knew I wasn't going to get anything posh maybe that's why I wasn't as shocked when I saw my room. A box is basically what you get as well as a squeaky bunk bed, a "wardrobe", a tv, a flashing light, a desk, an actually decent AC and a "window", what... more
