We moved to Upstate NY after many years living in NYC. The Wales has become our home away from home when we visit the City. We stay there on average once a month. The rooms are comfortable, we love the neighborhood with it's terrific little restaurants, and it's a terrific value.

Located close to Central Park and #6 up/downtown subway, this small convenient historic hotel could be considered for a NYC stay. But be careful about room choice as you may be disappointed. Our room has a desirable street view but some look out into a wall, reminiscent of Budget Paris accommodations. If your budget allows, get a corner suite looking... More

We stayed here in December 2014. Two adults and a three year old. The hotel is in a nice neighborhood with very good proximity to a subway station and Central Park. There is a lot of high end shopping within walking distance. Our room (a mini-suite on the fifth floor) was a nice size for a NYC hotel. It included... More

If you're looking for quiet, secluded, clean, beautiful, historical, and great staff, then come to Hotel Wales on Madison Avenue in New York City. This was my second visit to Hotel Wales and I would come back over and over again. I appreciated the assistance of Rosalyn and Cindy at the front desk. Also Alex for helping with safely storing... I highly recommend this hotel. We had a good size suite for a family of four, well priced and quiet for NYC, pleasant staff, great location, clean, charming decor, coffee and tea available 24 hours a day, nice neighborhood

We were very pleased with the hotel location. The neighborhood was beautiful and quiet. One block from Central Park, close to the Museum of Art, Carnegie and Guggenheim. about six blocks from the subway. There is also a pharmacy, grocery and wine store within 4 blocks. Because it is a historic hotel, the rooms are small. This was not an... More

Checked in and were told, you have the Penthouse, all excited. Wrong, the worst hotel room I have ever had in all my life all over the world. To get to it you had to walk through what looked like a construction area but wasnt. The room had a hole in the ceiling. The bathroom ceiling was leaking. ASked for... More

I had a good stay at this hotel and will be happy to visit again. Good parts: 1. The location on Madison Avenue and within walking distance of the museum mile including the Met. 2. The staff who are all very friendly and helpful 3. The free WIFI on as many devices as you wish. One day all hotels will... More

We stayed a Saturday night at the Hotel Wales - my husband, 4- and 6-year old sons, and me. The location is very convenient to the park, museums, and restaurants. But do not kid yourself that this is a luxury hotel. The level of customer service is poor. We valet-parked our car so that we could easily get the car... More

The Hotel Wales is a great off the beaten path find. I stayed one night on a business trip and found the hotel to have many strengths. Specifically: it's in a great residential neighborhood, away from the tourists. So, you wake up and have coffee at one of several high-quality coffee shops/restaurants within a block of the hotel with actual... More

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighborhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighborhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighborhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
