Standard rooms are very small; ours had some problems and the manager comped us a small refrigerator for the 5 days we were there, plus breakfast for two at Sarabeth's, which we felt was a satisfactory trade-off. The lounge on the second floor is a nice place to meet friends or decompress after museum going. Very nice staff, clean rooms,... More

We stay at the Wales several times each month. It's comfortable, reasonably priced, and in a great neighborhood. It would be even more attractive if they kept track of their guests and recognized them when they returned.

We stayed here for the proximity to Mt. Sinai hospital since my wife was scheduled to give birth the next morning - one night's stay (just the room and taxes) was $442, which I consider pricey. Hotel has obviously been around a long time and was probably built to be somewhat budget-oriented at the time (before the market rate for... More

Great to stay in this neighborhood near museums, restaurants and transportation. The common areas of the hotel were clean, bright and well appointed. We were in the city to visit family and took two rooms - one for our 20 something children and one for us. Our room was great with a sitting area, table, desk and furniture that might... More

Thank you for your review Shari! Great stay at the Wales. We had a suite, which was basically a bedroom with two beds and a small adjoining sitting area. It was the perfect space for three of us visiting and picnicking between New York City activities. There was room for a rollaway, but since it would have been a tight fit we chose to use the... Thank you for your review! We hope you had an enjoyable flight on your trip back to Florida. It is great to hear that you liked the accommodation. The Carnegie Suite with two double beds which you stayed in is one of my favorites because of the amount of space as well as the view of Madison Avenue that they... More

I arrived for the first time to Wales Hotel, in the photo gallery on the website all looked very nice, young and contemporary. Unfortunately everything but not like the pictures! the room was very small (hard to find place to the suitcase), the closet is small and narrow, the furniture of low quality and poorly maintained, a broken ceiling lamp... Thank you for your review Mr. Simantov. Based on the description that you provided it sounds like you stayed in one of our classic standard rooms which are adequate for one or two persons. In the event that you prefer more space we highly recommend one of our Carnegie King Suites which offer a king size bed in the bedroom... More

We have stayed at the Wales a number of times over the years because of its proximity to family. It seems to get more tired over time. This last time we were in a 'suite' on the top floor. The room was shabby. The window A/C unit was installed using the flimsy accordion side pieces, and the room was as... More

Plus: very friendly and responsive staff, approachable. Staff do their best with a limited facility. Room very clean and well-kempt. Nice common lounge for all guests, which we did use. Very quiet, safe area; this was among the lower priced, for NYC. [Everything is outrageously expensive in NYC, so be prepared.] Pleased to see there was a small gym with... More

I had a very good experience overall at the Wales. I like the quiet residential neighborhood, which has a lot of useful shops and restaurants. The valet car service provided by the hotel was very helpful to me. My room was small but comfortable, and the bathroom was new and had an excellent walk-in shower. I would stay here again.

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighborhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighborhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighborhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
