Very charming. Friendly staff. Old world charm. Nice bed and bedding. Front desk was very responsive to requests. Nice location in Carnegie Hill. Quiet neighborhood. Brevity is the soul of wit ... I resent being prompted to write 200 words by a computer program.

If you need to be on the upper East Side, close to Mt. Sinai, or close to the Metropolitan Museum, this is the place to stay. An older building, likely once apartments, this hotel has lovely, large rooms. We had one bedroom overlooking Madison Ave and a living room, with a pull out couch (in case you need that), a... More

I stayed in one of the Carnegie suits with my daughter because all the rooms with 2 beds were sold out. It was worth the few extra bucks - in January, anyway. I'm sure these rooms cost a lot more in the height of tourist season. The room is not a true suite in that there is no door between... More

I have not stayed at the Wales in 10 years. There has been an obvious decline. Although you can't beat the location on the fashionable UES the hotel is far from posh. The room furnishings were shabby- puckered carpet, terrible mattress, noisy heat, burned out light bulbs, little help from front desk. We had to ask for the sleep sofa to... More

Ok, the Upper East Side location directly next to Central Park is an obvious plus. this also means great shops and restaurants around the corner. But the hotel itself has charme, too. If you are lucky to get one of the renovated suites, you can feel at home there. Nice living room, ok bedroom, stylish bath, and all that with... More

This is a hotel that is surviving entirely on its location and a lack of any other suitable options on the east side. The rooms are small and have original charm, which is to be expected. Neither of those has anything to do with the two star rating. We stayed four nights over New Years. Each night between the hours... More

We stayed here for 5 nights in December, in a corner suite. We'd heard about the hotel from some friends who are tough graders, and it lived up to its billing. For a special treat, this is the place to stay in NYC: the suites are large and lovely (with great architectural details), the location is away from the tourist... More

Built in 1902 the Hotel Wales still retains many of the original features, but the renovations have merged old and new seamlessly. The rooms may be small but the amenities more than enough. The beds are superb, the mezzanine meeting place was great when the family met to open Christmas Presents and the location makes for a great family location.... More

While the rooms are small, the atmosphere of the Hotel is great and the staff is so friendly. I had not stayed here for over 10 years, but it was the same as I remembered. Showers were updated and the bathroom was really nice. The location is fantastic for those visiting the upper East Side. Having a great dining spot... More

We had a wonderful stay last weekend. The room was very clean and quiet, and the staff was very polite and helpful. The fitness center is small but you do not need to use it because Central Park is only a few short blocks away. The location is superb. Even with the Christmas chaos in full swing downtown this part... More

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighborhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighborhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighborhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
