The hotel was very cute, and the staff was very nice. My wife and I went on a trip for our first time to NYC, and booked this hotel because we found an incredible rate for a hotel on the island (183/night). For the value, it's well worth it. But, for first-timers, I wish we had spent more on a... More

My son moved to NYC last year and I have stayed at Hotel Wales 3 times now. To me it has an old world quaint charm. If you are wanting modern and sleek this is not the spot. But if want what I think is elegant 100 year old charm then this is the spot. The staff is wonderful. The... More

The staff are wonderful, but the hotel is in need of some repairs. There are missing and/or cracked tiles in the bathroom and the room is in need of upgrading. The location is quiet and the rooms are a good size, but overall the rooms are just adequate.

Great hotel, great neighborhood, great staff. We had a great time here just last week (March 2015). Decent rates for a family of 6 ($350 per night) for a room with two double beds and a pull out sofa. Beautiful hotel built 100 years ago! Very close to good breakfast bakeries, the Met and the subway to get downtown. Plenty... More

I read all the reviews before staying here; They were wrong!!! Without exception, this is the WORST hotel I have stayed in in NYC (out of the 20 that I have used in the past) Old Dirty Worn out furniture No heat control,..., Imagine 1920 style cast radiators with twist knobs at the base...now you have the picture Every person... Surprisingly large bath rooms for NY,NY. The bed room was very small with a queen size bed. The lobby was well staffed with pleasant people. Computers free the first 15 minutes then the price goes way up.

It's in my favorite neighborhood and a few blocks ️️fr my daughter and her family. You don't need to leave the hood as museums galore great restaurants and European type shopping. Ask for a Madison Avenue suite or room with park view. Great light and cheery!

Stay away from this Nightmare in Nowhere. Its close to some museums but thats about it and there is nothing to do in the neighborhood. The restaurant is precious and pretensious and rediculously overpriced. Check in took forever, we had to wait 45 minutes to get a room and the clerk didn't know anything about the room. If I hadn't... More

I have been to this Hotel many many times on business. Make sure you get a good room, and be happy. Front desk are friendly and helpful, a nice Jazz atmosphere at the upper lobby with coffee and tea 24hr, and free internet :) Location is good, although you will walk a few minutes (~4) to the subway. During the... More

We stayed at Hotel Wales recently when my mom had surgery at Mount Sinai . The location of the hotel on the upper east side is very convenient to many of the city's best museums . Rooms are big for NYC standards and are a bargain . The hotel has a very quaint feel - Beds are comfortable - and... More

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighborhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighborhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighborhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
