A beautiful small hotel in NYC in a fantastic neighborhood. A quiet charming place with lovely rooms and outstanding bathroom. The staff was very helpful and nice when any service was needed. I was glad to have opportunity to stay here. Much better than Franklin Hotel that I left to come here.

Staff is very accommodating. Rooms are not huge but reasonable in size and the bathrooms are updated. room service from the restaurant next door and a convenient grocery two doors away. There is a first floor area with coffee 24/7 and tables for eating or reading complementary newspapers.

I can image that this was a great place to stay end 70's begin 80's. But you can see in a glance that this hotel has lost it's glory since then. There's quite a lot of maintenance to be done from my opinion. Some parts of the hotel smell like a mixture of brass/fungus/grease (can't describe it any better than... More

A lovely old Hotel, situated in a good position for sight seeing, the suites are large with many windows & immaculate bathrooms. A guest lounge has teas & coffee available 24/7 The Hotel also has a lovely roof garden. The only fault I could find was some carpets could do with replacing. No in house Restaurant but they own the one... More

After being on the phone for over an hour to fix the room problem. I was forced to pay an upgrade fee. I was switched to several different customer service agents for bookings and was exasperated by the lack of understanding.

Needed a hotel near Mt. Sinai hospital for my wifes surgery. This was one of the three choices we were given. We took the penthouse. BIG mistake. Penthouse was on the 10th floor, the top of the building. Obviously the water could not get up that high most of the time. Could not get hot water in less then 20... More

A group of friends and I booked two separate rooms to sleep 8 people for a room in the city for three nights. Price was right when we split it up 4 ways. The main king bed was very comfortable and we had no real complaints about the fold out couch other. The room was pretty spacious and we had... More

Great location for Central Park and reasonably close to L-train subway. Room quite small, great shower. Décor was modern, free apples on reception and free 24/7 tea and coffee in a big room with space for work or just extra space out of room. Roof terrace was a nice space but no bar and view was not terribly exciting.

We stayed in a junior suite and enjoyed the additional room. As others have mentioned the bedding is quite luxurious for a hotel in this price range. We found the entire staff to be friendly, courteous and helpful. The hotel is old but had a facelift in the recent past. Nevertheless, in our room on the 9th floor we still... More

The Hotel Wales is nice. The rooms are clean and with it situated in the upper east side, the neighborhood is safe. We stayed in a junior suite and appreciated the larger room with the king size bed. The front desk staff isn't helpful or friendly, so plan to have your questions answered else where.

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighborhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighborhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighborhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
