This is a historic, quaint and exceptionally accommodating hotel. The hotel is 115 years old and has been renovated to retain its old world charm and ambiance. The rooms are a mix of singles and suites. The age of the hotel is clearly noted in the very efficiently sized single rooms. The suites hark back to the day when hotels... More

Just a couple blocks from Central Park and the Guggenheim museum, this small hotel provides a friendly comfortable home in the city. Was in town for a family graduation. Our room was small but had everything we needed. The window unit AC was noisy but got the job done on a hot summer day. Be warned that there are no... More

The hotel is well-situated on the upper East side. It was not possible to get an early checkin.. However, once we got the room , it was quite nice and comfortable with 2 lounge chairs, an ormamental fireplace, and a great king bed. The bathroom was adequate, with a rain showerhead. Unfortunately, the rooftop was closed for remodeling. I would go... More

We immediately fell in love with this hotel. Built in 1900 it had so much charm and beauty. Original floor in the lobby. We had a standard queen room and it was small but still stunning and comfortable. I had the most amazing shower ever. Really cannot wait to come back!! Awesome & attentive staff. Great location in upper east... More

Traveled here with my daughter & her boyfriend, booked a suite not sure what to expect. Many times a suite just means there's a sofa bed at the end of the bedroom. This had an actual seperate room, with a door & a TV. Pleasant surprise. Nice sheets, classic decor. It's an old hotel, but very nice and reasonably priced.

Traveling with my adult son, I paid extra to book a room with twin beds. I received a confirmation of a reservation of a room with twin beds. The day of our arrival I sent the hotel a message that our flight had been delayed and we would be arriving past 10 PM and received a confirmation from the hotel... More

Thank you for your review. Although I do not fully agree with your review, and especially the much undeserving title "an arrogant dump", I do apologize that we did not have your room type available. It is unfortunate that this happened as we pride ourselves in properly handling our inventory to prevent scenarios like this from taking place. I sincerely... More

This is a wonderful hotel in the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Close to the Guggenheim Museum, Central Park, and many other local places of interests close by. There are 4 good restaurants within 150 feet of the Wales and 2 grocery stores within 1 block of the hotel. I am not one to say "My Whole Vacation was ruined... More

If you're looking for a rain shower head, soft luxurious bedding, & lovely old world charm, this hotel has them all! I had six nights here last week and it was brilliant. The location is unbeatable whether you want to travel by hop on hop off bus, the under ground subway, or subway buses. My early morning walk each day... More

Thank you for your review Nikola! I must say you brilliantly encapsulated in very few words one of the best ways to take advantage of New York City while staying on the Upper East Side. The Hop-On, Hop-Off sightseeing buses are a great way to navigate the city. The nearest stop is located on 5th avenue and can be reached... More

We booked a large suite here for a girls' weekend. There were 6 of us in the room, which it was actually fairly able to accommodate (2 double beds and a double sleeper sofa). The room was rather pretty and we had no complaints about it. Comfortable beds. I recommend a higher floor (which we had) for less noise. We... More

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighborhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighborhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighborhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
