The Helmsley is situated so central, you can walk to most things, which is a big bonus! The hotel is very clean, and staff are very polite and helpfull. We had a lovely big room, with a great view over 42nd St and of the Chrysler building, and crisp new sheets every day. If I had to find a negative,... more

I booked my stay at the NY Helmsley because of its pet-friendly policy (no addtional fee!) and central location. The staff was so friendly and happy to meet my dog. The lobby was under construction, but the staff and accomodations made up for any inconvenience. I loved being able to walk to major landmarks: Times Square, Grand Central Station, 5th... more

Okay, to be fair the hotel is being extensively remodeled so the lobby is a wreck and there are no food establishments. I'm all good with that. What I am not good with is the fact that the hallways on the room floors are stained, smell, have ratty carpet and pealing wallpaper. The rooms are old, not elegant at all... more

We travelled to NYC for Spring Break with our 3 children (all under 7) and really enjoyed staying here. Reception staff very helpful and friendly. Location is great (very close to Grand Central Station). We didn't eat at the hotel as it always looked pretty busy but we rarely eat at hotels on family holidays anyway as it's always overpriced.... more

The front desk personnel were very professional and polite. They were very helpful and gave us directions and tips for travelling about the city. We were delighted with the bell staff. Nice fellows. We enjoyed the availability of separate beds in the room. Very comfortable and clean accomodations. Thanks very much for allowing us to access the room early. This... more

Was in New York for the first time in september for the Brazil Festival. Quite an experience I must say. First we got charged or ripped off for the ground transportation from airport to the hotel. We got to the hotel and it was under construction for bar room and dining room. We managed nicely without it. In all and... more

Surprisingly large room (on corner facing east and south), very nice bathroom, bed comfortable, staff very pleasant and perfect location between Central Park and Madison Square where we wanted to go. Renovations were no problem and would like to see them when completed. more

We attended a conference at the Helmsley. First, the lobby was under construction, which was a big turnoff, but I'll cut them some slack on it. The service upon checking in was a bit standoffish. I had reserved a king bed and all they had was two doubles - no apology, just a take it or leave it attitude. The... more

I have just come back from this hotel-we stayed from 26th to 30th October. I must admit I was some what concerned by some of the reviews I read before staying here, but these were totally unfounded. I was in a room with my 12 year old daughter & our friends in a seperate room. On arrival the reception &... more
