This is the hotel of choice for me when I stay in NYC. It has such rich history and such wonderful character but on my most recent stay there [12/8 - 12/11], I must say that they failed miserably especially given the price - around $600/night with all fees/taxes/services charges tacked on. The doormen were rude; bellhops absent; seating in... More

This hotel gas some of the most helpful and courteous employees in NYC. The building is full of historic charm. The restaurant is very good, especially the weekend brunch. The standard room has only a queen bed, pretty small, but elegant. Nice window seat, upscale amenities. The best location you could have for theatre, shopping, nightlife, a short 2 blocks... More

I admit the location is quite ideal, that I agree, but other than that, there is nothing I like here... the room is small, old, stain in the washroom, old hotel, very old the moment I walk in I feel like I am in a dungeon. the elevator is small and super slow carpets is old dirty... If it is... More

The Algonquin is very well situated in the city - very close to many areas by walking and subways are nearby. The lobby is very pleasing and this area may be used for drinks (although $21 for a martini is a bit high), light snacks, or just people watching. We ate at the round table for dinner one evening and... More

I was at the Algonquin Hotel for two nights. It is a Marriott property so you will get points for the stay. The location is great, a block from Times Square and other mid town attractions and all the great restaurants. I found out as I was taken to my room that this was the oldest hotel in New York... My husband, little dog, and I had a great time at this hotel. We stayed for five nights using our airline miles, which was awesome because the room rate was costly. I researched that they have a "pet program" and inquired about this when we got to our room. They were a bit puzzled, but then brought for Benny (our... More

Wonderful hotel, the location is amazing. First time in New York. Took bus from Newark airport for 27 return, drop off is less than two blocks from hotel. Times square is two blocks away. Great restaurant two doors from hotel where you can get a full breakfast for, under 10. Rooms are small but if you have travelled in Europe this... More

Spent one night, November 26 2011, at this legendary hotel. The room on the 7th floor was small (perhaps not by NYC, especially Empire State area, standards), but extremely clean and contained everything one needed, including a very charming, if a little tiny, bathtub. Both my female friend and I slept quite well that night, hardly hearing any noise whatsoever.... More

Expensive but my favorite NYC hotel. The staff makes a nobody feel like a somebody without being pretentious.Too bad the health inspector made them put a leash on Matilda, the hotel cat. Next time I want to see the cabaret act in the Oak Room.

The Algonquin Hotel was a great place to stay for the weekend. Rooms are small, but if you are on the go like we were, the only time we were in the room was to sleep and regroup. Only a few blocks from Times Square, 30 Rock, and many of the Broadway theaters on a very quiet and uncongested street.... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
