The location of this hotel is very central and it's very easy to get to all of the main tourist spots - most are within easy walking distance or only a short metro trip away. This was the best thing about the hotel. I was traveling alone on holidays and I really felt as if I wasn't as important as... More

My wife and I stayed at the Algonquin for one night. The location was perfect; walking distance to dinner and a Broadway show. We drove into the city without hassle and parked directly across from the hotel ($35 overnight for hotel guests). I made the mistake of leaving my camera, cell phone and I-pod in the car when it was... More

Now i'm not an experienced traveller, or am I used to staying in top notch hotels, but I really couldn't think of anything to complain about at the Algonquin! Part of staying in other countries is about experiencing their culture, quirks, and personalities, and found the staff helpful, funny, cheerful and a pleasure to talk to. The room was always... More

Overpriced, undersized and far too impressed with it's own history. We found the staff to be patronising and aloof. The room tiny (even by NY standards).Only refuge was the bar. Stay away. You can get a lot better for your dollar. If you do visit the bar, make sure you pop across the road to The Royalton - probably the... More

We booked a premier suite for three of us: my husband, our 20 year old daughter, and me. We made our reservation through the Algonquin website and got one of their special rates (Writer's Block). I was concerned by the negative reviews I saw here on Tripadvisor, but we had a wonderful visit with none of the problems mentioned by... More

That's our second stay at the Algonquin in three months. The first one we stayed in a classic room and this time we booked a suite. Classic rooms are small with tiny bathroom but well decorated. Suites are more spacious (and more expensive) with beautiful furnitures. There is a special atmosphere in this hotel thanks to its historical backgrounds, the... More

The receptionist was very rude for a start, acting like we were an inconvenience. Then we made the mistake of using the hotel phone to make a 35 minute call to the UK. The phone didn't seem to work or accept coins when an operator came on the line asking if I needed assistance. I said yes and gave her... More

Like some of the other recent travelers who have posted about their experiences at the Algonquin, I have to agree that the women at the front desk (one in particular) seemed bored with me and openly hostile when asked when she thought our room might be ready. The doormen were great; the bartender fine. Rooms are small, but so is... More

I really can't review the hotel itself...because I never got past the lobby. After making a reservation through Travelocity a month prior to my arrival, I walked in the Algonquin only to be greeted by a smiling desk clerk happily telling me that we had no room as construction was taking place! Yeah that's news that will make me happy... More

We are an active elderly mother/daughter traveling team who love old quirky hotels. When we visit Manhattan we most often stay at the Algonquin. Over the years we enjoyed the Algonquin for birthday celebrations, family Christmas reunions, visits with faraway friends. The hotel was the ideal rendezvous point -- a lovely lobby, quirky rooms, excellent martinis, perfect location, and once... More
