There are so many hotel choices in NYC, it is difficult to choose between them. We wanted to stay in an older hotel that had some character instead of a chain. Although this is a Marriott hotel, it is not your typical Marriott. The location is perfect, just off Times Square, but on a quiet street. I had read a... More

I just returned from a four night theater sojourn at the historic Algonquin. The newly renovated hotel is sheer perfection. The staff offers personal service with a flair. Everyone from the bellmen to the bartenders (Rodney's Cosmopolitan in the adjacent Blue Bar is heavenly) are dedicated. The room that I had was a corner room on the second floor and... More

This hotel was nice and clean and staff were friendly, for the price I was a little disappointed in the room as the bathroom was very small to say the least. Overall the hotel was nice and clean and the location was good. Also surprised that there was no option for 24 hour room service.

Been coming to the Algonquin for a number of years and see good changes and also some concerns. Updated wall paper misses every quirky New Yorker cartoon and makes the place seem blandly mainstream. Blame the new corporate owners. Wireless almost useless in the room but easy to pick up in the lobby and lounge. Updates in decor have cranked... More

We had a great time! The hotel is close to many sites, so we walked to Times Square, Rock Center, Theater District, Grand Central, Public Library (a must see) and Central Park. It's easy to catch subways and taxis in the area, too. Our bed was very comfortable and the staff was very friendly. The is a good bagel/pastry shop... More

So nice to find a hotel with a genuin historical background, excellent staff and a cat to guard the reception! The 44th street is not crowded, but close to Times Square and Metro stations. The hotel is just renovated and feels clean and fresh.

Stayed at the newly reopened Algonquin in Manhattan for 3 nights recently. I was super excited to stay at this venerable landmark and it didn't disappoint. The entire hotel was closed for refurbishing and reopened on May 24, with a nod toward the incredible literary history 3 new books (some were actually pre release) were left in my room as... More

Got a great deal for this hotel and would be happy to stay there again. Great location for theater and other activities. Drove into the city and just stayed one night. Parking through the hotel was cheaper than any of the garages. Great bedding and well thought out amenities light built in reading lights and outlets. Grabbed bagels at Time... More

Enjoyed our stay very much. The renovations are beautiful and tasteful. The lobby is warm and inviting. As soon as you step in the front doors all you want to do is have a seat and relax. The hotel staff is wonderful and so attentive. Well organized and extremely hospitable. The Blue Bar is a fun place to have a... More

Beautiful rooms, great details, like marble staircases. Sure the drinks are expensive, but aren't they everywhere in Manhattan? Dine elsewhere. But the rooms are charming.

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
