My husband and I just spent a weekend in New York. We chose this hotel because I had purchased it through a shopping site. From the moment we arrived, the staff treated us as if we were frequent guests. We had lunch in the Blue Bar where Henry took excellent care of us! His recommendation for the salmon carpaccio was... We were on a mixed business and personal visit to NYC. The room was very comfortable and pleasant, and I particularly enjoyed the deep tub for a long soak. The staff was very personable and professional, as well. Great access to parking, and restaurants, let alone convenient to Times Square. The history of the Vicious Circle was amusing, but not... The Experience is worth every penny but try to find a deal in advance as it is expensive. You can meet their cat (matilda), chat with an old time bar tender, get some inspiration from the new yorker, read international newspaper. The staff makes you feel at home and the food and cocktails are worth trying. The location is close... More

My wife and I, along with another couple stayed at the Algonquin over the Labor Day hoilday long weekend. Prior to our arrival, the hotel's Operations Manager (Abeer) was extremely helpful in answering our questions and arranging limo service to and from the airport. She is truely and asset to the hotel. We were greeted with a smile from everyone... More

We popped in for a drink where Dorthea Parker and her gang drank - had the most arrogant waiter - totally ignored us...put a damper on our excitement.

Location was perfect for us. The room was a little small but we were active and not in the room for very long. Very comfortable, housekeeping staff was very helpful, room service fast. The lobby in the hotel was very welcoming as were all of the staff--reception, bellmen, wait staff.

To start things off, we stayed at this hotel for a single night only, so we probably did not have a chance to experience the most this location had to offer, especially just to soak in the history of it and it's great looking bar/lounge. Arriving at the hotel, the service was excellent. I wish I remembered his name, but... More

Booked this hotel through Priceline at $150 for the night because we literally couldn't afford our previous hotel's $465 a night price tag post Irene and our flights had been cancelled : (. After the ultra sofistication of our previous abode, the Algonquin felt like a 'real' hotel, hard to explain but it was strangely comforting. Room was small, bed... More

Reading some mixed reviews I figured that with this hotel you either hate it or love it. Yes, it does have small rooms and does not offer the typical chain hotel standard. Yet, it is extremely cosy, elegant and perfectly located in the heart of the city. Maybe not so much appealing to business travelers it has a lot to... More

I was a little nervous about this hotel from the other reviews. Overall I found the hotel to be ADORABLE. The room wasn't too small- I expected it to feel like a closet- but there was plenty of room to walk around- there was a closet available and the bathroom was quite large as well. The bed was great and... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
