Overpriced, undersized and far too impressed with it's own history. We found the staff to be patronising and aloof. The room tiny (even by NY standards).Only refuge was the bar. Stay away. You can get a lot better for your dollar. If you do visit the bar, make sure you pop across the road to The Royalton - probably the... More

We booked a premier suite for three of us: my husband, our 20 year old daughter, and me. We made our reservation through the Algonquin website and got one of their special rates (Writer's Block). I was concerned by the negative reviews I saw here on Tripadvisor, but we had a wonderful visit with none of the problems mentioned by... More

That's our second stay at the Algonquin in three months. The first one we stayed in a classic room and this time we booked a suite. Classic rooms are small with tiny bathroom but well decorated. Suites are more spacious (and more expensive) with beautiful furnitures. There is a special atmosphere in this hotel thanks to its historical backgrounds, the... More

The receptionist was very rude for a start, acting like we were an inconvenience. Then we made the mistake of using the hotel phone to make a 35 minute call to the UK. The phone didn't seem to work or accept coins when an operator came on the line asking if I needed assistance. I said yes and gave her... More

Like some of the other recent travelers who have posted about their experiences at the Algonquin, I have to agree that the women at the front desk (one in particular) seemed bored with me and openly hostile when asked when she thought our room might be ready. The doormen were great; the bartender fine. Rooms are small, but so is... More

I really can't review the hotel itself...because I never got past the lobby. After making a reservation through Travelocity a month prior to my arrival, I walked in the Algonquin only to be greeted by a smiling desk clerk happily telling me that we had no room as construction was taking place! Yeah that's news that will make me happy... More

We are an active elderly mother/daughter traveling team who love old quirky hotels. When we visit Manhattan we most often stay at the Algonquin. Over the years we enjoyed the Algonquin for birthday celebrations, family Christmas reunions, visits with faraway friends. The hotel was the ideal rendezvous point -- a lovely lobby, quirky rooms, excellent martinis, perfect location, and once... More

This hotel exceeded my expectations. I booked on Priceline, but felt I still received the same service I would have had I booked through the hotel. Doormen were almost always there to open doors, greeted with an apple upon arrival, which was a nice touch. The hotel has kept its historical charm. The room was clean and quaint, with a... More

I booked a room at this hotel using Priceline.com. Our reservation was for two double beds. We were given a room with two twin beds and told the hotel does not have any rooms with two double beds. We were then forced to use a room with a king size bed and share. The bed was a bit lumpy, room... More

During my recent six-night stay in early July, the temperature in Manhattan spiked at 105 degrees Fahrenheit plus humidity. Given that this hotel is more than a century old, I was surprised and delighted to discover that the air conditioning was up to the task and my room was a cool oasis in the midtown heat. I have stayed at... More
