The algonquin hotel is a historic hotel just blocks from times square. My room was very small (a queen bed, with little space around it), but I was traveling alone so it was enough room for me. The view was dissapointing considering I was facing an alley way, but besides that I had a great experience at this hotel. The... More

My husband and I stayed here last weekend. We truly enjoyed the hotel. They were having very bad weather and we had booked the night club show. It was a lot of fun and the food was surprisingly good. This is not a hotel for young people. The lobby is always busy with people being served drinks. The only complaint... More

Not really sure what the hoopla is about this hotel. It is really old- which is fine- but when an old heater keeps rattling during the night and keeps you up, then that is a problem. i complained to the desk, but their "technician" said that it was steam going through the pipes and that it shld stop once the... I was a bit nervous about staying at the Algonuin after reading some negative reviews but my experience there was wonderful. Check-in was a pleasant experience--the front desk staff was helpful and the bell captain was particularly welcoming. All my experiences with staff were fine--I'm surprised that in the past others had found the staff unfriendly. That was not my... More

We came for 5 days and chose the Algonquin because of its historical link with the Round Table. The staff both reception, porters and waiters were very friendly and the service efficient. Enjoyed the ambience of the cocktail hour, approx 6 - 8.30 p.m. Rooms are on the small side, but maybe this is due to the age of the... More

Everybody knows that hotels in New York are ridiculously expensive and with tiny rooms, but even so .....The good things are good; great location, entrancing lobby/lounge, good service and ambiance, comfy bed, but our room was minuscule. With our baggage we could only just get around the room and no storage drove my wife mad. You need to schedule time... More

Had a suite which was just fantastic, huge flat screen tvs in the bedroom and the lounge, sofa, desk etc, large comfy bed and walk in wardrobe. Attached to the hotel, The blue bar was a lovely place for a nightcap and the lounge like stepping back in time! The Red Flame - a real NYC diner was great for... More

There are hotels galore midtown, most of them newer than The Algonquin. Unlike the Algonquin, some of these transient sleek glass boxes have cocktail terraces and roof gardens but The Algonquin has claim to so much more. Two blocks from Times Square, One block from 5th. Glitterati and Literati in the compass of one short stroll. Stay at the Algonquin... More

The fabled Algonquin Hotel still gets it done. It remains a warm and wonderful place, even with the idiosyncrasies and fraying edges. The rooms are comfortable, amenities just right, and the lounge scene on a Friday evening was very nice - good food and service, great wine, and superb ambience. (Okay, cue the Twilight Zone theme song.) So, it's now... More

We came for a long weekend and were quite pleased at the hotel experience. The staff was quite friendly and helpful (in contrast to a previous review) and the hotel was quite charming and quirky - but in a good way. Our room was not large but was typical for the area, and the hotel in general appeared to be... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
