I've stayed in a bigger cell than this, get outta bed, bang your knees off the wall, then you'll trip over the tv, which is on a stand between wall & corner of bed, other side of bed is against wall so you can't even walk around the bed. You got to be carefull using the sink in the corner... more

We thank you for your comments and are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your stay. Although small, we strive to keep our rooms with shared bath cozy and comfortable. When occupancy is high, you may experience a slight wait while one of our other guests use the shower. Our housekeeping staff works very hard to keep the...

I stayed at the Portland for 5 nights in April 2009 in a Double with a Shared Bathroom. The room was clean and well heated. The shared bathroom was kept clean (and if you are concerned about it just wear flip flops in the shower). The size of the room was not great but when you are is NYC, who... more

I was taking a group of college students and alumni from Texas to New York and this hotel was recommended by an alum who is a church choir director and has stayed there for several years. I booked the rooms and then began reading the reviews and was horrified. However, although the rooms are small and worn, it was clean... more

We went to New York to see a concert at the Today show. We stayed at the Portland Square Hotel for one night. Check in isn't until 4 p.m., but the very friendly front desk workers let us check in at 10 a.m. and upgraded our room to a private bath. We were on the 7th floor and had a... more

In the words of Bette Davis, "What a dump!" This has to one of the worst "bargains" going in New York City. I can't believe how rundown the rooms were (don't be fooled by the few remodeled rooms) with exposed cords and frumpy finishings. You can do SO much better finding bargains through travelzoo.com. more

Dont believe all these bad reviews. I'm sure theyre all just people with very high expectations. We arrived and were given our room straight away. Very friendly staff. Room wasnt big but it is a budget hotel after all. It had a very nice double bed with clean sheets, Tv with good selection of channels, bathroom and shower which were... more

I am not sure how to articulate how dissapointed me and my brother were on our first New York trip. Rooms are nothing like the pictures we saw. Tiny rooms with tiny beds. Not enough space here to put anything.. It is just horrible, and they refuse to give any kind of upgrade or anything.. Location is the only good... more
