After all these years, still a dump! Shower was lukewarm, never got hot or really even warm. Service personnel never fixed up the room even though the "Service Requested" tag was hanging on the door knob from 11AM onward. And there is no proper chair -- the desk chair is a low-to-the-ground ottoman, or maybe footstool. Forget about doing any... More

Excellent Greenwich Village location at the corner of Washington Square, right by NYU. PATH station for New Jersey almost adjacent, subway nearby. We got a very good price, by NYC standards. Helpful, cheerful staff; clean throughout. Hotel was a favorite with musicians playing local clubs, including jazz stars, Chuck Berry, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Bo Diddley. This is an older,... More

Stayed at the Washington Square Hotel on business. The location is excellent if you have business in the NYU or Greenwich Village area. The staff was pleasant and my room was clean. But the rooms are very small. The mini desk area had only a padded ottoman, not a chair. It would have been difficult to have a couple in... More

This was a great place to say however there were a few things that needed to be upgraded. The staff were accommodating. The rooms were noisy and it seemed they had not renovated in a while. The price was good however if you are looking for a place to stay.

Our stay at The Washington Square Hotel was perfect. The hotel has an art deco theme and great location in Greenwich Village. We easily walked to all our destinations during our stay. With NYU just blocks away makes it a great hotel for visiting parents. The staff was wonderful and our room was clean and comfortable. Parking garage one block... More

Visited the Washington Square Hotel for a 6 night business trip. We initially chose this hotel because of the great location and it definitely has that going for it. However, after a full day of meetings the room doesn't have a comfortable chair to sit in and rock hard beds. The walls are paper thin and you can hear everything... More

I loved this historic hotel. No the rooms are not super glamorous but they are fine with all you need. I was upgraded to rm 903 and loved the room and the view The concierge is extremely friendly to everyone and happy to help with anything so are the reception staff. I was initially a bit put off by the... More

Vintage New York - great location, style, and staff. The rooms are very clean and perfectly appointed making the best use of a small NYC space. Robes, makeup mirror, iron and board, umbrella, etc are all tucked away. Although this may not appeal to some, I love being able to open a window for fresh air. Breakfast was terrific. When... More

I lived in the West Village for many years before moving full time to the Hamptons. Now that I am back in the city frequently for work I have been staying at WSH every week. I simply would not stay anywhere else. Not only is it the primo NYC location, with the lovely park across the street, a zillion cute... More

I was supposed to stay at this property recently, however I came down with a virus and was unable to travel. I had paid for a non-refundable two-night stay and was concerned about losing my payment. When I called from the airport to explain my change of plans, not only were they warm and welcoming, but they honored my rate... More

Staying in Greenwich Village

Neighborhood Profile
Greenwich Village
Commonly known as “the Village” to New Yorkers, it was here in Greenwich Village that both 1960’s counter culture and the LGBT movement were born. Famous for its bohemian past, head to Washington Square Park to get a feel for this diverse and energetic neighborhood. You’ll find NYU students, street performers, skateboarders, kids frolicking in the fountain, and locals relaxing and playing chess. Stroll the streets to discover a mix of majestic town homes and hidden bars and restaurants that give this neighborhood an old-school residential feel. When the sun goes down, check out one of the famous jazz or comedy clubs that still packs them in every night.
