This charming hotel has a European feel to it. Our room was very small but serviceable with a modest breakfast offered in a dining area that was underwhelming because of the size and number of guests vying for seating space. The location, however, is outstanding and the staff bends over backwards to respond to your needs. You're close to Washington... More

It didn't start out well. We reached the hotel very late evening after a long 4.5 hours drive from Boston and were told that our room 'was not available'. Well, they had made alternative arrangements and they paid for a taxi to take us to the Hampton Inn, that served as an adequate replacement to hit the bed! Next morning,... More

I was glad we chose this hotel. I would stay here again. Great style and the staff was all very friendly and helpful. Right on Washington Square Park- we were visiting NYU and this was a perfect place to be. Breakfast was just right- it was crowded around 8:30 but I was happy with it. Our room was just right,... I can honestly say that this hotel exceeded my expectations entirely. I have never been to New York, but have always anticipated going. Luckily, I was given that opportunity as a friend took me for my birthday. I did not know much about this hotel, but had seen a few pictures - looked fairly impressive, so I remained optimistic. But... More

This hotel has an amazing location in Greenwich village , just steps away from Washington Square Park , It is near several subway stations and, of course, NYU. If you are a parent visiting your student look no further. The room was not typical in size for NYC infact quite spascious and very clean. Breakfast at the North square restaurant... More

Quite small rooms, and I guess that the first floor's rooms might be a bit noisy, but after one night we got room from 8th floor. We had no problems with anything, the worst thing was when one morning we had to go to the full service breakfast (the buffet was full). It was like the buffet, but you had... More

Seven years ago I stayed at the Washington square hotel with a friend on a shopping/sight seeing trip to New York and thought it was fantastic. In the past 6 weeks I have visited NYC again for 3 separate weeks for business along with 2 colleagues Anne and Dave and did not consider anywhere else to stay. The Art Deco... More

The hotel is alright, the rooms are very small considering I upgraded to a better room. The toilet constantly made noises throughout the night and there was a dripping sound elsewhere in the bathroom, but no leaking faucet. The TV was too high up and the sound wasn't great. The bed, however, was very comfortable. The location is good, close... More

I am only giving the hotel a 3 because the staff were helpful but the hotel itself is more like a bed and breakfast. Small, a bit run down, lots of left, right two steps up, three steps down, through the door to reach the restaurant and the room. Was booked to stayed three nights with breakfast , had my... More

We stayed at this hotel whilst on a long weekend in New York. We had previously stayed up town and decided to go for one of the villages on our second trip and I'm so glad we did. The location of this hotel is excellent if you like jazz bars, good resturants and a more local feel. The hotel itself... More

Staying in Greenwich Village

Neighborhood Profile
Greenwich Village
Commonly known as “the Village” to New Yorkers, it was here in Greenwich Village that both 1960’s counter culture and the LGBT movement were born. Famous for its bohemian past, head to Washington Square Park to get a feel for this diverse and energetic neighborhood. You’ll find NYU students, street performers, skateboarders, kids frolicking in the fountain, and locals relaxing and playing chess. Stroll the streets to discover a mix of majestic town homes and hidden bars and restaurants that give this neighborhood an old-school residential feel. When the sun goes down, check out one of the famous jazz or comedy clubs that still packs them in every night.
