The hotel it's self was kind of a hole but the staff were very nice and accommodating. The hotel hallways smelled like pee and I don't mean a little it smelled like a baby's diaper. The bathroom is a floor shared and is creepy. The hotel has window A/C units and they are very loud even with ear plugs. That... More

We stayed here two nights and did just fine. When reserved online directly through the hotel's website, which gave us an automatic discount. We asked for and were given a double room with a sink. (Keep in mind this hotel does not have bathrooms inside the rooms. You have to go down the hall and share.) At check in, we... More

This is my second stay here. It's a good location and quiet at night. Reasonable $$ room was small and shared bath rooms but that posed no problems. Clean. Could have done with a hook or rail for towels. And there's a really smelly ( really) permanent resident guy who stinks the lobby out sometimes even after here's gone if... More

This was my second stay at this hotel, last visit was some years ago; great value for the price; "no frills", all areas were clean and some updating appeared to have been done; diner, food market, restaurants, major subway hub (Union Square), Greenwich Village, beautiful architecture all close by; feels like a neighborhood, not in the concrete canyons of midtown;... For my one-night visit to NYC to meet up with others who were coming to town I didn't need anything fancy and didn't want to spend $300-$500 that most hotels seemed to cost. For $155 (including taxes) I had everything I needed. Hotel 17 was very clean, well maintained, quiet, and safe. The staff were knowledgable, friendly and helpful. There... More

Check out time - it is 06:30 in the morning and i need a taxi to go to Penn station. The "nice" man at the front desk tells me it is not the policy of the hotel to call taxis. Say that again????? Last impression is the one that counts for me. The hotel sent me a survey by email... More

This was a perfect place to stay in New York, a really good price and very close to the center of Manhattan. The Shared Bathrooms were well maintained, had no problems using them. Comfortable room too. Would recommend and stay there again.

Perfect location, close to the centre, great faciltities. 10/10 would certainly stay again. This hotel made our stay in New York special and I'll always remember the smell. also it was nice to be far enough from the centre to have an interesting walk in.

If you want a great New York experience for a reasonable price, stay at this hotel. The location is perfect, and just a short walk to Union Square and the metro. Plenty of interesting shops and restaurants nearby too. The hotel has good wifi and the shared bathroom system works well and I had no problems. Although bedrooms are small,... More

Shortly after checking out I contacted the hotel about leaving my phone charger in the room and asked them to return it. A day later the manager phoned to say the cleaning staff hadn't found it. Aside from the dishonesty, which amounts to theft, I would give the hotel 3 stars.
