Good location for exploring Manhatten. Rooms were clean and adequately (although by no means lavishly) equipped with towels and toiletries. However, staff don't seem to be trained in the most basic of procedures (using the credit card machine correctly) nor in customer service (issueing apologies when things go wrong can make all the difference chaps!) And don't expect the manager... more

Shared Washroom wasnt a problem at all, and it was always clean, you never had to wait to use it either :) The room was very simple, but you had your own sink and mirror, Cable TV and a decent bed. it was in a good location - walking distance to everything. Staff was friendly, and the hotel was quiet. more

This is the second time I stayed here with my husband and again it was just what we needed. I attend a banquet every October at the National Arts Club with is only a couple of blocks from this hotel. If you keep driving around the block you can find a space which is free as long as you aren't... more

Rooms were much bigger than they looked in the pictures. Had to share a bathroom but they were cleaned regularly and I never had to wait and the price reflected the fact you had to share. Large tv in the room and a wash basin , mirror etc. Plenty of towels. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Close to the... more

I was really shocked by how terrible this hotel was. It is small, dark and dingy and looks as though it hasn't been refurbished for a good fifty years. The corridors were very narrow and the bathrooms were tiny and badly lit. The rooms themselves smelt musty and the air conditioning units were so loud we had to use ear... more

I spent a week at the Hotel 17, New York City. As far as the decor and overall image of the place goes, think the Pricilla Hotel in the movie Thoroughly Modern Millie. I half expected Mrs Meers to pop up behind the reception desk asking if I was all alone in the world and I kept an ear cocked... more

I have stayed here more than once and most of what I have to say is good. For the prices they charge and what you get, is what makes this a great NYC hotel. ROOMS- Be prepared, the rooms are small and some don't have private bath but very clean and decorated well in a sometimes quirky way. BATHROOM- Some... more

Having just spent a night here after a gap of 30 months since the last stay, I am pleased to report that Hotel 17 is still great value for it's location. As well as value, the service is friendly, the rooms are clean and internet is now free (get a room on the 2nd floor if you need wireless access... more

I stayed at Hotel 17 for three nights, and I was really satisfied with my stay. It is a 2-3 minute walk away from the J line on 14th street, and it's in a good neighborhood. The single room was small but adequate. More importantly, it was clean. The shared bathrooms were not much of a problem; I rarely saw... more
