Stayed here with my boyfriend and everything was perfect. We couldn't fault it. The location is great, the room we stayed in was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was as it should be and the staff were friendly. Had an amazing time and would definitely stay again. My only regret is only booking a long weekend... New York is amazing... More

Nice location on 81st street by the park, the rooms are clean, no room service. I like the hotel, it's boutique but the staff was rude. After traveling on a business trip, I needed a cab to take me to the airport early in the morning. The hotel attendant informed me the street was closed and she couldn't call a... More

We wanted our trip to be about seeing New York city and sampling all it had to offer, which meant the hotel we stayed in was not that important. It was only to be used as a base to sleep and refresh; as long as the hotel was clean, good value and in a good location, then that's all that... More

Negative reviews about "rude and unfriendly staff" are presumably from first-timers in New York City. In NYC you get what you give, and in my experience the service at the Excelsior was just fine. And why judge a hotel, especially in New York, just by the smile or the snarl you get from the front desk? Above all, the location... More

I picked this place as it is close to friends in Manhattan. It is right opposite the Museum of Natural History & close to subways & buses. It was clean, friendly & came at a good price. The room was quite spacious for a NYC hotel and clean. Staff were helpful. Internet is at an additional cost. No breakfast was included... More

Great location. We were immediately upgraded to a suite. It did not have a view, but the extra space made up for that. Only stayed 1 night. Suite was updated, clean, linens, pillows, robes, towels all immaculate. Convenient breakfast room open 7 to 11 a.m. Frances at the front desk had no problem with our request for a late check-out... we were here only 2 days.it's not our first time in New York but this hotel surprised us for the staff that is rude, unfriendly and not professional. we read many Tripadvisor's reviews that tell the same things and we are wondering why the hotel's direction don't take any decision about this problem. the staff treats you like a stupid, you feel...
