4 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

I stayed at the Excelsior in late February 2015, and was pleased at the quality and comfort of the room. The room was humongous by New York City standards, with a large sitting room, separate bedroom (2 flat panel TVs), and clean, well-furnished bath. The price was amazing, at $150 for a weekend night. On a very cold February day,... More

Although the hotel is charming, centrally located, and reasonably clean, the purpose of renting a hotel room is ultimately to sleep-and that just wasn't possible at this hotel. When the first room had noisy pipes-spurting and belching-the front desk staff quickly offered to move us to a different room. When the second room was the same, they offered us a... More

Stayed in this hotel for 4 nights for a city break. It's important to say this hotel is under some renovation which is stated clearly when booked. We experienced no problems with this so don't let that put you off. The hotel is located across the road from the natural history museum, and is close to a central park entrance.... More

My experience here was really a shame. The hotel was nice and the room well cared for and nice. The front desk staff were so exceptionally rude I am afraid it overwhelmed the entire experience. I have travelled very consistently - close to weekly - for over 20 years and am very understanding of common issues that occur at hotels... More

Loved this hotel although don't know why. Our room was on the 14th floor and had superb views over the park and History Museum. It was very cosy and warm, bed very comfy, however some of the other rooms were cold and draughty with noisy radiators. Two members of our party requested an alternative room as the temperature outside had... More

I love the Excelsior. Great location. Great value. Great, friendly, helpful staff, who go the extra mile. Rooms facing south over Museum of Natural History are especially lovely and bright. Recently stayed in Executive King suite, which was remarkably spacious, with a nice, bright city view from the 7th floor. Despite some recent refurbishments, room was a bit dated and... More

Great area, convenient to Metro, museums, Central Park. Lots of dining options in its Upper West Side neighborhood. Would like access to coffee, at least in hotel lobby. It's not so bad having to travel down the block to Starbuck's in the nice weather, but during our stay earlier this week in the most frigid of Februaries, it was very... More

Please note that I have only visited New York once, and this is the only hotel I have stayed at in New York. This makes it impossible for me to provide a comparative view based on experiences of other New York hotels. I have however stayed in many hotels all over the world. This hotel is expensive for what you... More

Stayed at the hotel for four nights. Great location next to central park. Stayed in room 406. We as a party had 3 other rooms. Our room was freezing cold, curtains were moving and you could feel wind coming through. Moved after two nights. The hotel bar opened at 6pm, could have been opened earlier. Hotel toilet on 2nd floor??... More
