I chose to celebrate my birthday in New York and researched lots of hotels, and finally chose the Excelsior Hotel. I booked 2 twin rooms (1 for my mum and I and 1 for 2 friends who were flying in just for my birthday) and when I arrived I paid for both rooms and the receptionist guaranteed that the second... We chose this hotel because of its location and moderate price, but didn't really know what to expect. It was a pleasant surprise. The room was very nice and extremely clean; roomy by NY standards. No bedbugs!! It's a girly word, but I thought the room and bathroom were darling. Loved the painted tilework. The bed and pillows were very... More

Nice hotel. Large room for the money in NYC. Hotel is older -- will disappoint if you want a modern NYC hotel. But for those of you who value location and a decent-sized room, this is a very nice hotel. Staff is efficient but not too friendly, which is how I like it.

Wow, right from the second we drove up to the Excelsior Hotel, the hotel showed its true colours. We were greeted by the bell hop and asked if we were checking in. He was able to get us a parking spot on the street, FOR FREE (we were able to stay in that spot for 5 days straight, without having... More

I frequently stay here when attending events uptown at it's located on 82st. Classic dark wood lobby is small but adequate and staff is friendly and effective. Last stay, the room was small but adequate for double twin and the bath was cute with lovely elegant tile. Hot shower had great water pressure! Local area had great restaurants on Columbus... More

Great older hotel in a lovely neighborhood. Rooms are clean and bright. Close to Central Park as well as two subway lines. A ton of restaurants one and two blocks away. Joe's Coffee just down the street on Columbus is perfect. Staff is friendly and attentive. We will be back.

How it is worthy of 4 stars only God knows. The staff upon our arrival (and throughout our entire stay) were abrupt, rude and discourteous to each and everyone of my family members, including their friends who accompanied us on this holiday. We did not receive the rooms that we had reserved and pre-paid for, and they were considerably smaller... More

Needed a place to stay for just one night before a medical appointment in New York the next morning. This was a great choice. Clean and nice room. Good bed. Very reasonable rate for NYC. Self parking with a hotel discount at museum across the street (no valet parking). Not close to shows or events, but didn't matter to us.

Old school manhatten hotel but modern amenities. Room was clean and comfortable. Front desk very courteous and helpful. We were on top floor (16) and had great city views. Very close to central park and met museum so was great location. What was most surpising was how quiet the room was. I hardly heard the typical nyc siren. Definitely will... More
