Good location and great place. My room was small but fine for me with a shower and wash basin. The bed was comfy and there were plenty of sockets for charging things. The only drawback is the shared toilets. There is one per floor and whilst they were always clean and rarely all in use, the one on the ground... More

Can't beat the price! Location is convenient to train and local attractions, seems to be in a safe neighborhood - not many people on the street at any given time. Bathroom/shower were clean, room was comfortable. Would absolutely stay again. Perfect for couple, may be tight for friends.

The Chelsea Lodge was a great place for us to stay over the usual hotel. It is 100+ years old so have appropriate expectations that the floors may be uneven or the bed tilts, but then also expect decor that is beautifully crafted and well-done and isn't in today's typical hotel. The staff is outstanding and is happy to help... More

Let's be clear: Manhattan is expensive. Finding a room in a nice area for less than $200 a night in shoulder season is a real ask. So when you do, you have to accept certain compromises. The good news about Chelsea Lodge is that the compromises (and there are some) aren't too bad at all. The hotel's location is fantastic.... More

I stayed for four nights in one of their apartment suites and was really impressed. Spacious (for Manhattan!) and very comfortable. Kitchenette was great to have with big fridge/freezer, stove, oven etc. No microwave or kettle but we just boiled water on the stove. Not brilliantly equipped with cooking implements but functional nonetheless. We faced the street and there was... More

I've been going to the Chelsea Lodge--on the initial recommendation of a friend--since 2004. In all that time, I've found the rooms quaint, the staff wonderful, and the location near subways and bus routes perfect for getting around town when I have to be in Manhattan. I particularly like the second and third floor rooms, though I've also stayed in... More

Excellent neighborhood (Chelsea) with lots of restaurants, bars and cafes nearby. The rooms are small but clean and perfectly fine, and having the toilet down the hall is no great inconvenience for me. The TV set is pretty useless and only a few local channels & infomercials are available. The fellow at the reception is helpful and always willing to... More

You can't beat the price or the location. Chelsea is a great neighborhood and it's right near the subway. I've stayed here before with my family in the suites but this was the first time here by myself in a single room. The room was nice and clean. I took a room that had no toilet and I had to... More

We could not have been more satisfied with the Chelsea Lodge. We got the suite in a separate building and it has its charm. Yes, the kitchen was old but functional, the shower was not perfect, and probably the worst was the hard mattress, but...for the money, we could not have found more value and charm in tres expensive NYC.... I toured this hotel as part of a search for a visitor coming to New York who wanted to stay in Chelsea. The outside door was locked when I arrived and I had to ring to be admitted. The interior of the hotel is dark and dingy. The rooms above the ground floor are walk-up and the stairs are very... More

Staying in Chelsea

Neighborhood Profile
Chelsea
Home to hundreds of art galleries, beautiful brownstones, and one of New York’s newest and most popular attractions, Chelsea is one of the city’s jewels when it comes to neighborhood life. The contemporary art scene is an integral part of the neighborhood’s identity, with gallery openings almost every night of the week and countless exhibits to explore. As a longtime hub of gay culture in New York City, it’s also a diverse district with a vibrant nightlife scene. The opening of the High Line, an abandoned elevated train track transformed into a world-class pedestrian park, gave this neighborhood new life as a tourist destination. The High Line provides visitors with a tranquil, elevated space with incomparable views, providing an unparalleled way to experience the city.
