The Chelsea Lodge was recommended by my daughter who lives close by in Chelsea. An unusual brownstone town house converted to an Hotel. It has a garden which was extraordinary with garden suites. As a lone female not happy about garden entrances so plumped for a first floor rear single. Small but adequate with a shower cubicle . Strange thing... More

This is our second time here. Two years ago, the previous room rates made the spartan rooms with toilet down the hall acceptable. Now that the rates have increased, there are better deals available. They have priced themselves out of their previous best market. Besides, they are not that friendly. Finally, there is one long term resident who obviously goes... More

Me and my husband stayed here with another couple for a 3 night stay. We were in room DR2 in the basement which had an ensuite. Our friends were upstairs with a shared toilet. The hotel was cosy, staff were friendly and helpful. Paul gave us some eating recommendations which were excellent. It was bitterly cold outside but the hotel... More

My husband and I found cheap $113 round trip airline tickets and booked them immediately, only to find the hotels on the first weekend of December in NYC to be astronomical. My husband did some research for affordable hotels and found this little gem. Small rooms (bed takes up 75% of the room), but clean and tidy, there are numerous... More

Hotel: Small, but very clean and comfortable rooms with windows and private shower. Toilets across the corridor (very clean too). Staff super helpful and friendly all the time, provided delicious tea and coffee in the mornings, baggage storage available, hair dryer available on request. Fresh towels and room service every day. Location: Nice and charming area (Chelsea) as well as... More

Hotel rates between Thanksgiving and New Year's are astronomical so I went on Trip Advisor and found this little gem. Traveling for business in Chelsea, I needed a room for one night. Chelsea Lodge popped up with great reviews and a caution that toilet facilities are shared (there is a wash basin and shower in the room). The walk up... More

My husband chose Chelsea Lodge for our six-night stay in NYC based on a recommendation in the Lonely Planet. We had a "deluxe" room with our own toilet and shower. It was a step down from the hotels we had been staying in in other parts of the U.S. and I was initially unimpressed with the furnishings and facilities. After... More

We spent 7 nights here in mid October 2014. It feels a little like camping. Room was hot some days so we had to open a window and run the fan but it made a comfy environment to sleep in. (NOTE: They ONLY use window AC units in summer months.) There were 2 toilets next to our room and we... More

First and foremost, NYC is one of the most expensive places to visit. That said, this lodge was great value for money. Stayed for 7 nights. Rooms are small but adequate. Located in a nice neighborhood of Chelsea which has good restaurants and an active nightlife. Despite the latter, once you are in the confines of your room, you can... More

We stayed in this lodge for 4 nights in mid-October. Our room is in the basement, close to the street. At first I worried about the noise, but it turned out the street is pretty quiet in the night. And in the morning before we went out it was interesting to watch people walking by above us, a new experience... More

Neighborhood Profile
Home to hundreds of art galleries, beautiful brownstones, and one of New York’s newest and most popular attractions, Chelsea is one of the city’s jewels when it comes to neighborhood life. The contemporary art scene is an integral part of the neighborhood’s identity, with gallery openings almost every night of the week and countless exhibits to explore. As a longtime hub of gay culture in New York City, it’s also a diverse district with a vibrant nightlife scene. The opening of the High Line, an abandoned elevated train track transformed into a world-class pedestrian park, gave this neighborhood new life as a tourist destination. The High Line provides visitors with a tranquil, elevated space with incomparable views, providing an unparalleled way to experience the city.
