My review is based on my stay almost 5 years ago - Summer of 2010. I only have the best memories on this place. But perhaps back then the whole universe just had good mood and filled the place with best crowd ever. Yes there was no privacy, but you met great people. All Europeans, we were living in this... Very nice atmosphere :) Great to try to live in Harlem, and easy going to the subway and to the rest of the city. Not very exspensive, which is great, if you're a student.. All you could wish for at a hostel :)

Hey... I really liked the hostel, its a little far from times square but at the same time the sub-station is just a couple blocks from there, so you can get there in 15 minutes or less... The structure are good enough for who are looking for a fancy place. This hostel is adaptable, like we met some other brazilians... More

I stayed here in Summer 09. Right on Lenox - which is a good street to be on - short walk up the road from the tube (Subway) stop 125th st Metro-North - don't be scared - they are all nice people here. Just don't be drunk outside late at night because the naughty local bad boys may take money... More

Though hostels are not know for their opulent luxury, this one is definitely on the low end of "poor". As I write this review, I acknowledge that my efforts may be in vain, as the day before I departed, the hostel announced it was being evacuated due to "conditions that were perilous to life". So I have no idea how... More

i got assigned a room on the 5th floor with no elevator and a steep and not large staircase so that to go up with your suitcase was really difficult! then the toilets were dirty as well as were the showers. not practical at all because you could not hang your stuff or put it on the floor to take... My room was one with 8 beds. The mattress was about a thick as a sheet of paper. Speaking of sheets it was twice the size of the mattress & would not stay on the mattress. My blanket was covered with holes & cigarette burns. . . One blanket per person. The room was freezing. The cleaning staff went thur... More

Guys and girls, if you are thinking of saving some money because this hostel looks cheap than I can assure it is cheap. The service is cheap as one can imagine, bedrooms are unliveable (even the private rooms stink). My belongings were stolen and I was cursed at by the reception. I can go on and on. Learn from my... The front desk hostel staff are friendly but the atmosphere is ruined by the very rude housekeeping staff. They threw out anything they found on the floor regardless of whether it was rubbish or not. I spotted her several times throwing out people's belongings and possessions. When confronted all they do is shrug and say they were sorry it looked... More

The only good thing about this hostel is the price and it`s location is OK. But for the same money you could easily find somewhere WAY better to stay. The beds were incredibly uncomfortable, there was a random cat roaming the hostel which came in to the room and slept on someones pillow. The bathrooms were tiny, dirty and half... More

Staying in Harlem

Neighborhood Profile
Harlem
As a hub of African American culture, Harlem has played a vital role in the history of New York City. Today, the neighborhood is as vibrant as ever as new businesses and developments go up next to local institutions. The heart of the neighborhood is bustling 125th Street, where street vendors and historic landmarks like the Apollo Theater mingle with big-name stores. Turn down almost any corner, and you’ll discover some of the most beautiful blocks in the city, filled with handsome brownstones, soul food restaurants, corner shops, and scenic parks. For a taste of a real New York neighborhood, it’s hard to top a visit to Harlem.
