we arrived at candy at 1am after a 7 hour flight from the UK. we were directed to 2 different hostels due to overbooking and offered no help with baggage. arrived in the room to find unclean beds and a bug crawling across my pillow. the window has a large crack in it which would have been acceptable if there... more

We stayed in New York few days in March, in Candy hostel- first impression was terrible, because on the third floor where our room was located was some kind of chemical smell, and when we came home to Europe, everything from our cases smelled like Candy hostel...anyway, it was nice stay except this smell, maid made room daily if you left... more

The only bad thing about this hotel was that I found a bug, but that was probably because I left my window open all day. Expected to be in a dorm room but was given a single room, yay! Thought that the lock was broken/wrong key (need to turn it to the right to unlock) and that the light was... more

I have stayed here twice, and have quite a different opinion on each of my stays - largely dictated by the reaction of the people with which I was travelling. I went here in Feb 07 or 08 and was given a basic, dark, not great room, we asked to be moved and got a great room, light, airy with... more

Stayed in a single room, hostel charged me extra although I showed them the print out "saying balance of XXX was payable when I arrived at the property". Although they said it is a tax charge the receipt I got, mentions no sales tax. I'm sure they are not paying those to IRS instead pocketing the difference. The room was... more

We booked through a hostel company and we were hit with suprise taxes on arrival although it didn't state it anywhere when booking. We arrived late at night and there was no signage stating "Candy Hostel". We get to our room and I found various hairs in the bed from various people. The carpet hadn't been vacumed as hairs on... more

I booked Candy Hostel because New York is damn expensive, I was on a serious budget, and it was cheap. As the title says, you get what you pay for. Let me preface this review by saying I'm a budget traveller, used to cheap hotels and crappy conditions, far from being a princess. Private room was fine, if not incredibly... more

As you have read in other reviews, this hotel is always overbooked and they referred or directed you to other hostel when you reach there!! It's ridiculous!! We feel we were being cheated!!The hostel Candy referred to us is West Side in Hotel at 107th street. The conditions in the room is very bad. Matresses are old and hard!! We... more

got biten at dozens of places on my body, during 1 hour (with light on in the room) in the evening. i captured one dead and one live one. brought them to front desk. they crushed the bugs (to eliminate the proof) and then they argued they are different kinds of harmless insects. next morning i met up with cleaning... more

my husband and I stayed for 4 nights and honestly I was afraid to sleep there after having read all those bad reviews. There are NO RATS! We stayed in a private double room that had a TV! :) it was clean, but we did bring our own sheets. we slept without any problems because the hostel was not at... more
