I really like staying here because of the price and location. I usually get a room with a shared bath. There are a couple sets of private toilets and showers on each floor. So, only rarely have I had to go up a floor. They are kept clean and well-stocked. Union Square subway station is one block away and, from... More

For the location and the price, not much beats this place. I was in town for a week long intensive class with a bunch of other students. The employees met every need we ever had and it is pretty close to just about anything you can want: a lot of great coffee shops within walking distance, shopping, food, bars, and... More

My daughter had a seminar at the World Trade Center and invited me to come along. This was a wonderful place to stay, clean, pleasant and safe. I walked into Greenwich Village and Soho, Gramercy and the Flatiron with ease. Some of the NYU buildings are a block south. The subway one block away connected us to Battery Park, Midtown... More

Location: You cannot beat the location. Close to subway stop, giant Whole Foods store (good, fresh food), Union Square which has a great vibe (go there to people watch). Accommodation: It is safe and clean. I've always gotten rooms where you have to share a bath (cheaper that way). If that is a total turn off fo you, fine, but... More

We've stayed here many times and continue to come back because of the affordability and location within the City. Located just off popular Union Square, there are many benefits of laying your head here: Barnes + Noble one block away, open til 10 pm where you can shop, browse, enjoy a beverage in the 3rd-floor cafe after a long sightseeing... The biggest advantages of this hotel are that it is so perfectly located for public transportation and the price is excellent for NYC. However some of the staff are completely indifferent if not downright rude. Considering the Lutheran connection I have always expected courteous and welcoming behavior but, once again, it is inconsistent among the staff. The issue of street... More

We had a two bed room with private bath. It was very clean, absolutely secure, quiet, and the hotel is perfectly situated near Union Square (just around the corner - where it is quiet). At the reception desk they are very friendly and helpful, and the price is very attractive. The only possible disadvantage: For tall men the beds are... More

Yes, this hotel or guest house is very basic, there is no luxury what so ever. But what you do get, is a comfy bed in a clean room in a safe place with good service. That did it for us. The location near Union Square is also superb. We had a twin room with bath. This room also had... More

For my college reunion in Manhattan where the people were coming from all over (Asia and Europe), we chose to stay at Seafarers and International House (SIH) because of its reasonable hotel rates and convenient location. We spent four filled days all over Manhattan, and its accessibility to public transportation made possible that in one of the days we were... More

I just returned from a weekend in NYC for the 9/11 Memorial Events. My husband and I almost decided to scrap the trip to NYC when we started searching hotels and found that the average price for a decent room seemed to be around $300+ a night. However, when I stumbled across the Seafarers & International House and saw their... More
