So this is in Harlem therefore it depends where you want to be. Very clean. Antique/old world style decor. I loved it - my friend prefers modern. Clean and very spacious. Nice bar/restaurant around the corner.

The owner Jeremy is really an interesting and nice person. I realized that I left my glasses at the room on my trip back home and I asked him to send my glasses to me. He helped me soon and did not ask me to pay the shipping fee!!! Also, the rooms are large and comfortable. I felt just like... More

We spent a week at Sugar Hill Harlem Inn. I was a little worried before because we would arrive without anybody there to welcome us but the door code was working and the key was in the room - as the email had said. The room (which was two rooms, as we had booked the Renaissance Suite) was really nice,... More

The owner Jeremy is the rudest and most condescending person I have had the displeasure of talking too. I booked a room that did NOT need to be pre-paid and did NOT know that my credit card would be pre-authorized. After one notice that my credit card did not go through, I gave him a new CC, the same day... More

I do not think it is fair that this review should even be allowed considering that I was given an invalid credit card at the time of the reservation. I contacted the guest when I realized this and this person did not respond in a timely fashion so I booked the room for someone else. I had no reason to... More

Like others here, I arrived on the doorstep of the address indicated on the website, called the number as there was no one home, and was told I needed to go to yet a different location about 12 blocks away. After schlepping luggage all over Harlem, I had to wait outside on the steps of that building, while the owner... More

The rooms are large, clean and interesting (great furniture and jazz themes). The location is great--just a few blocks from the red or yellow lines--and the neighborhood is charming. Jeremy, the owner, is a trip. He philosophizes but he isn't overbearing. Bernadette, who manages a lot of the day-to-day, is very friendly and interesting. I will not stay anywhere else... More

We booked to stay in 141st and like other reviews which have been left we experienced the potential last minute changing of location, which at a month before we were due to arrive was quite unsettling. Over a period of 3 days we exchanged a number of e-mails with Jeremy at the end of which confirmation was provided that 'Satchimos... More

My friends and I booked this place for 1 night. Let me begin by saying it's a very cute b & b. We had a very nice 2 bedroom spacious area to ourselves with a huge bathroom. Perks included complimentary WiFi and water bottles. That aside the location is terrible. The neighborhood is very shady and it's a long walk... More

Like others, I was left without a room despite booking 5 weeks in advance and having a confirmation. What's worse, it was for my wedding night! I choose this place because it was close to our reception venue and seemed like a charming building. To be fair, the place had character, or at least the dining room did, where I... More

Their website says that the building on 141 St where we stayed is now closed until further notice (they do have another property) but I will review it for when it opens again. This is a property with loads of character and therefore some rough edges (and some poor reviews). If you want big hotel comforts this may not be... More

Staying in Harlem

Neighborhood Profile
Harlem
As a hub of African American culture, Harlem has played a vital role in the history of New York City. Today, the neighborhood is as vibrant as ever as new businesses and developments go up next to local institutions. The heart of the neighborhood is bustling 125th Street, where street vendors and historic landmarks like the Apollo Theater mingle with big-name stores. Turn down almost any corner, and you’ll discover some of the most beautiful blocks in the city, filled with handsome brownstones, soul food restaurants, corner shops, and scenic parks. For a taste of a real New York neighborhood, it’s hard to top a visit to Harlem.
