We stayed in the Satchmo room. The bed was comfortable and there was a nice sized bathroom. The owner and staff were friendly and accommodating. We did not have any problems getting in the front door at night. We also enjoyed the history and architecture of the building. The location was only a couple blocks from the train, although walking... More

The location of this hotel was convenient. The food up Amsterdam Ave was top notch. Choices were many: Italian, delicious Indian at Clove (brand new), fresh eatery at The Grange and the Laundromat Lounge was mind blowing. But the hotel is undergoing renovation and the painting during the day really made my lungs hurt. The TV lacked a second remote... More

We made an online reservation for the Sugar Hill Harlem Inn and followed up with a phone conversation and email to Jeremy. We clearly indicated a late arrival both by phone and email saying our JFK airport arrival was around 11:00 pm. Jeremy assured us that if Sugar Hill Harlem Inn was full that we would stay next door at... More

We had a wonderful stay. Out room was the Satchmo room with its own deck and good sized bathroom. The bed was comfortable. There was room for the family to have a picnic on the deck. It was nice to have breakfast there if you didn't feel like going out. The staff was very accommodating.

I like that it is in a residential area, away from the big hotels and souvenir shops. The neighborhood felt very safe, even late at night. Broadway and Central Park West Aves are just a couple blocks away, for quick proximity to subways; about 10 minute ride to Upper West Side, 20 minutes to Midtown. It was easy to hail... More

Excellent room: clean, and really comfortable. The owner gives you great advices for visiting places in NYC. The subway is just 5 blocks away (5 minutes walk). The breakfast is delicious and homemade, besides the prices is very reasonable.

Sugar Hill feels like a home, not a hotel room. My spacious room was the beautiful Lena room which has a four poster, romantic, comfortable bed. The high ceiling is graced with a pretty chandelier, and the room has architectural interest in its fireplace and molding. The bathroom is small, but for one or two people it works just fine.... I was in New York for a big occasion and having a place that was both independent and of a high standard was very important to me. I was set on being in Harlem, knowing that I wanted an area that was also laid back but only a short time from downtown Manhattan - Sugar Hill Inn is all these... More

I travel a bit and do my research and was very pleased to come upon this nugget. I have stayed at the W, the Ritz Carlton, Marriott, Holiday Inn and many other Franchise Chain Hotels and this can hold it's own. The owner Jeremy is a delight and Ms. Bernadette is equally delightful. She runs a tight ship and the... More

So this is in Harlem therefore it depends where you want to be. Very clean. Antique/old world style decor. I loved it - my friend prefers modern. Clean and very spacious. Nice bar/restaurant around the corner.
