This was not my typical hotel choice. Manhattan hotels were especially pricey during this particular week, so I chose Blue Moon because the rate was decent and it looked intriguing. Blue Moon is great if you like boutique hotels off the beaten path with something unique to offer. On the plus side: rooms are a decent size by Manhattan standards,... More

Thank you Periaqua for the positive comments about the cultural experience at the Blue Moon. However, we were chosen by National Geographic Traveler as one of 150 hotels in the Western Hemisphere to check into, chosen as best boutique hotel by Citysearch, and have received 27 major articles – based solely on the merits of the property. Any hotel can... More

This was a last minute booking, and we were more than pleasantly surprised. We were greeted at check-in with a complimentary glass of wine and a very friendly and knowledgeable young lady. We were given the Ella Fitzgerald room, which was very nicely decorated and had a sitting area which was perfect for enjoying our glass of wine. The bathroom... More

Thanks to terpsgirl3 for her excellent review of the Blue Moon. It was a genuine pleasure having her as a guest. She was quite gracious about the incovenience she experienced at the parking garage. Actually, our arrangement with the garage is that they will accommodate the vehicles of Blue Moon guests even if they are full. Apparently someone at the... More

Just returned from a long weekend in New York where we stayed on the Lower East Side in this fantastic boutique hotel. The hotel is a refurbished tenement house where the owner (who was present and very friendly) tried to preserve as much of the original details as possible - marble floors, original tenement doors, tin ceilings... The lobby is... More

We’re very grateful to DrCe from Toronto for those appreciative compliments about the Blue Moon Hotel and especially our carefully hand-picked staff. However, “shabby-chic” would imply that our appointments were acquired at a flea market. The Blue Moon was a 5-year art preservation and design project and possesses acknowledgement by fine critics such as James Gardner and has been validated... More

Ah, what a breath of fresh air it is to experience such an exquisite little gem that is Blue Moon Hotel! This was my 2nd visit and I’ll probably never stay anywhere else in the city. And usually I'm a bit of a snob staying at the Ritz or Four Seasons, hotels of that caliber. In my opinion though they... More

The Blue Moon Hotel is a beautiful little boutique hotel nestled in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, a very exciting corner of the city. The painstaking process that Randy Settinbrino went through to keep the spirit of the building alive is very obvious as soon as one enters the hotel, with details from the former tenement flats utilised throughout.... I stayed there with my children. The room was very captivating. It had old world charms. Named after a movie star. With tenanent doors. Colors of the walls were so pleasant and the room was very large overlooking the Williamsburg Bridge. The service was friendly and engaging and the neighborhood a blast. We loved it!

We'd stayed here before - it was great then and has only improved. The new complimentary glass of wine - red for my husband, white for me - on our late arrival was deeply appreciated. The hotel is clean, painstakingly restored and well maintained; the staff consistently helpful and charming. Clearly the operation is a labor of love. Our view... More

This guest may be from London, but the story is malarkey; our policies web page is no secret and is not in fine print (and it is sent out for every reservation). While “cjbuck” was here, he awkwardly fumbled for an excuse to override our policy, the final version being an illness in the family, which he did not bother... More

Staying in Lower East Side

Neighborhood Profile
Lower East Side
Straddling the bridge between New York’s thriving immigrant past and its modern transformation into a beacon of global art and culture, the Lower East Side is one of the most dynamic neighborhoods in the city. The blocks of tenements that represented the promise and blight of the Lower East Side immigrant experience now command top dollar for new residents. Right next to old-world delis, 24-hour bodegas, and the garment shops of Orchard Street, you’ll find hip clubs, fashionable bistros, and luxury hotels beckoning at all hours of the evening. If you love nightlife and live music, it’s hard to beat the scene here.
