We reserved this hotel via American Express Centurion. However, about a week before I decided to check the website and they we're having a 50% off suite deal (it really was not 50% off but a good deal). Thus, I re-booked the rooms directly with the hotel. I made it very clear that I wanted a suite with an adjoining... more

After a hiatus of several years, I returned to the Essex House ("Jumeirah") for a weekend stay recently. I knew that it was under new ownership and that the rooms had been renovated; I was excited to see how the property had improved. I had been a regular and frequent guest through the '80s and '90s. Check-in took nearly 40... more

My husband and I recently enjoyed a long weekend here. We found a great deal on Tra velzoo which came out to $274 a night including the excellent breakfast buffet (normally $66 plus tax and tip for two people). The location was a perfect base to explore the city. We were able to go for a run in Central Park... more

I've reviewed this hotel once before on this same website, and wanted to edit my initial review from our previous stay but that's not an option. So, I'm writing a second review based on our stay in April 2008. I arrived at the hotel a few hours before my husband so I checked in and stored my luggage at the... more

Everything was charming and almost faultless in the hotel apart from the technology in the room. Great shame but frankly it's a little bit of a mess. The hi-tech in-room ighting is just not intuative. Guys, you've got to do something about it and observing other reviewers, there's clearly a problem. Silly unmarked buttons and touch sensitive Nortel phones that... more

We had a really lovely stay at the Essex, a totally renovated heritage property bordering Central Park. The location is fabulous for a short stay in New York, close to 5th Avenue shopping, Carnegie Hall, the park (of course) and only a short cab ride to the hustle and bustle of Times Square. We had booked a Junior Suite, but... more

Nice location, but the hotel itself sucks! The staff were extremely rude and did not provide the level of service expected of a four diamond hotel. Never staying here again. more

I stayed in a suite, The rooms were very spacious. The hotel also provides a car service which takes you as far as 10 blocks (which is handy when it is raining!). The room was very up to date with technology(Plasma T.V, Bose radio, touchscreen telephones, automatic lighting)although beware if you take anything out of the minibar for more than... more

This would have received an excellant rating, however, the price paid relative to amenities is not worth it. The hotel has a great location, beautiful lobby, and nice modern rooms. however, my room was a shoebox. the bathroom was nice, but the tub was old and cauking peeled away. the good features were the automatic lights when you walk to... more

Just returned from a fantastic trip to New York and stayed in a suite on the 33rd floor of the Jumeirah Essex House. We had a manhatten view, but from the lounge you could see central park and the skating rink. Despite a couple of teething problems with the room, the hotel staff were attentive and quick to sort out... more
