as opposed to the inhospitality business, Terrible customer service bordering on rude behavior which may turn off all the good things the neighborhood has to offer. If you can, force your cabdriver to accelerate when in front of this place instead of stopping. Booking this place was a terrible mistake. more

Visited New York in 2006 with my sister. Decided to stay here as it was cheap. Big mistake. 1. Building smelt of urine 2. The room was really basic, $10 child's bed frame and shabby sheets. 3. Paint coming off the walls, rat poison everywhere, mold on the walls and celling. 4. Shared bathroom, blocked loo and urine on the... more

I went to New York in december 2008 for a week with 2 other friends and we stayed at another hotel prior to this. That particular hotel was three times the price at the weekend ..therefore we came here for the last 3 nights of our stay , because it was a hell of a lot cheaper and had vacancies...funnily... more

This hostel was great. This time we booked a private room with two beds in and it the room was completely satisfactory. The whole hostel was lovely and warm and clean. The bathrooms were kept nice and clean which is often not the case in some hostels. The location was great, really close to Central Park and really close to... more

Great neighborhood, so-so hotel. We ended up on the 4th floor, no elevator of course. The room was spartan (no table, no chair, not even hook to hang a coat) but clean and quiet, that is until a group of German school kids started queuing for the shower next door... A bit rough if you've gone to bed in the... more

Booked a private room, arrived and told that there was only dorms avaliable even thought we had paid in advance, and that no refund would be given. Had to stay in a mixed dorm - with 2 other couples who had also paid for a private room. I think overbooking the private rooms and forcing people to stay in dorms... more

Columbus hostel has a big problem with overbooking. The staff is very unhelpful when it happens and won't provide a solution for you. In our case we were back on the streets of manhattan at 3 am because Columbus messed up... And finding a affordable hotel in new york isn't easy, especially not when you have to find something instantly.... more

This is 5 stars for me, just 56 bucks for 2 nights in the middle of Manhattan, near central park and subway stations. Of course a very less rate implies an adapting to a place that isn't the Grand Hotel. Maybe the wc was very tiny and not beautiful, but was clean. I slept in a room with 9 other... more

Hotel location was fantastic- local shops and restaurants were plentiful and right near Central Park and the Subway. However, the actual hotel was quite disappointing. It is a hostel, which I was aware of but the bathroom did not have a separate toilet, so if you wanted to just brush your teeth or go to the toilet you had to... more

The taxi cab driver reluctantly dropped me off in front of Columbus Studios hostel on W. 83rd. I check in at the front desk since I made reservations 2 weeks prior to stay. The (unprofessional & unfriendly) young lady at the front desk tells me they're all booked, no beds are available. I reminded her that I made reservations on... more
