Best location and low priced restaurants in city in this location. Rays and Mighty Quinn's BBQ are best food for the price. Small basic rooms but clean bed and bathroom at a great price. Must pay in cash, but you can cancel any time. My only huge recommendation is DO NOT stay in the rooms facing 3rd Ave.. It is... More

Hotel prices in Manhattan are incredibly high (easily double the prices you pay elsewhere for better value). If you don't expect too much, this hotel can clearly be recommended; i only paid 140 Dollars per night for a single room, which is a real bargain for New York City. The room was very small and had neither a table nor... More

You get what you pay for and being one of the cheapest hotels of Manhattan, I wasn't expecting much. We stayed for 4 nights and found it was clean, friendly and central. The downside was the size of the rooms (we kept falling over luggage as there no where to store it except between the beds) and the incessant noise... More

We moved into this hotel from an upmarket hotel near the Times Square, as the prices were getting too high for our extra couple of days. We booked a room at St Marks Hotel online. On our arrival, we were very disappointed by a few things, and were almost worried about our stay there. At first, we were not quite... More

The room was small, however clean and comfortable. It was sufficient for our needs, to sleep. The hotel is located in Greenwich Village close to the subways for both uptown & downtown transit. The hotel is old but I found it to be in great shape. The only problem was the traffic noise. Check to see if there are rooms... More

Perfect location for exploring the village. Busy area. Good bars nearby. Room was a bit run down and small bathroom but you get what you pay for. Quite noisy on the first floor, recommend you get one of the upper floors. Cash only. $160 for a twin room.

If you're looking for the Marriott Marquis, this ain't it. If you are looking for a budget hotel in an absolutely wonderful area close to subway stops (N, Q, R and soon to reopen 6) this is it. The rooms are small, clean and Spartan and contrary to the recent other reviews, I was told up front that it was... More

Okay so when I looked up the reviews for this hotel most people called it run down awful etc. Yes it's an old building thats fine with me. What I liked was the sleep quality, after all you're not suppose to stay in your hotel the entire time in NY right? If you're someone who is going to tour around... More

This hotel is creepy. They rent rooms by the hour and only take cash payment per day. The rates that are on hotels.com are higher than what you would pay if you called to book a room. If you don't mind sharing a wall with people engaging in illegal activities, then go ahead and stay here. It's cheap. It's also... More

Where does one start! The positive - it's in a really good location. End of positives. A CASH ONLY hotel (not made aware of this when booking) that required an up front settlement. The in-house ATM did not work (and the fee was $3 per transaction!), withdrew funds from a nearby ATM, but upon returning later in the evening found... More

Staying in East Village

Neighborhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighborhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighborhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
