We were staying at a nice midtown hotel for LESS than the St. Marks charges for a room with 2 doubles, but we wanted to be closer to our daughter's NYU dorm, so we decided to change hotels. HUGE mistake. Please do yourself a favor and don't walk, RUN away from this hotel. Prior comments have said "You get what... More

Amazing hotel in great location It is close to all the places I love to visit within walking distance, It is remarkably inexpensive for a city where hotels are extremely expensive and often for not so great places. They often seem to be booked. Very helpful staff .very clean and quite hotel I think the bad reviews for this hotel... More

Luckily, me and my fiancée only had to endure 1nite in this grotty, horrible brothel of a hotel, and yes, we saw the cummin' and goings of the other "guests"....You wanna hire a room by the HOUR? No problem here my friend, but for us, NEVER AGAIN!

First the good news. It's right in the heart of the East Village. If you're visiting someone at NYU, you're right down the street. You're two blocks from the 6 train and three blocks from the N and R, so the whole city is within striking distance. You're on the same block as the rightfully famous McSorley's Old Ale House,... I booked a double room at the St. Marks for 5 nights in July. The room had two bathrooms and the beds were separated by a 2/3 wall with a doorway in between. The bathrooms were small, but tiled and spotless, with sink, stall showers and toilets. Closets are wall-mounted as are the televisions, and the beds are doubles. The... More

New York City can be quite expensive. But if you are willing to do without the frills, St Marks Hotel is a great value. The rooms are small. No complimentary breakfast. No elevator. Quaint payment policy: Cash only; no credit cards. But it's clean and comfortable in a great location in East Village. Staff is friendly and helpful. My only... More

Our room (#36 facing St.Marks) might be a very tight fit where the queen bed takes up most of the space, but with a little rearrangement the room worked fine. We basically changed the bed's orientation to create a passage all around the bed, giving us both a place to lay our bags on the floor...and hang a couple of... More

This hotel is exactly as advertised. It's basic but in a great spot. The price is one of the best in town. There was no linen in our room so the first night we used towels as blankets but after mentioning it to staff in the morning there were blankets when I returned later in the day. I would recommend... Staying in East Village

Neighborhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighborhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighborhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
