This is a tough one: The St. Marks Hotel is located perfectly in NYC in a fantastic, busy neighborhood, the staff is really friendly and building itself has it's own charme. But... There are some downsides. The rooms are loud (really, really loud, don't think about sleeping without earplugs) and you have to pay for your room in advance, in... More

Location is everything about this hotel specially if you plan to have a couple of night in the lively city of Newyork, we were 3 and we booked the room that can take up to 4 and surprisingly we found the room is big and have 2 bathrooms which is something very rare to find, the room was okay in... I needed to make a quick trip to NYC on my own dime with just an overnight stay, and I could find few options under $300/night. I took a chance on St. Mark's, because it was walking distance (20 min.) to Cherry Lane Theatre, the site of my evening commitment... and it didn't break the bank. On the positive side,... More

I come to NYC every year and have stayed in numerous hotels. This is by far the worst. The windows allow every single noise to come into the room. They only take cash on a nightly basis which is pretty sketchy. The shower had hair in it and the towel had mascara stains on it. I am a college student... More

This hotel was one of the cheapest ones we could find that was ok for a couple trying to save money. No elevators are a problem if you travel with many bags but there's always someone from the reception to help. Bedroom was clean and had a OK bathroom. THe location is really good. Close to 2 subway stations and... More

We just spent 6 nights last week . Early impressions were not great ,but the place grew on us. Proximity to a great part of NYC had us busy all day.Step out the door into The real New York. The room was a bit noisy but we slept well most nights. Staff were fine. Price was good for NY.

I know what you're thinking... "this is cheap for Manhattan!"..... there is a reason. Trust me, pay a little more and go somewhere else. Thin and dirty sheets in a room that would be more suitable as a cell.

Stayed there with my g/f for 7 nights, 21-28 Oct 2015. Initial impression is that the hotel deserately needs to be updated. The decor & furnishings are very dated. There is no safe in the room but you can use a safe deposit box in reception for free. There is a lot of traffic noise but it is possible to... More

Stayed here mid October for 12 nights.Older hotel with basic rooms, small shower rooms and no lift but perfect for a city stay. There is a 24hr diner and bar at street level and 2 subway stations a minutes walk away.Rooms are spotlessly clean and serviced every day and the reception staff were helpful and friendly. The location is fabulous with plenty... More

5th stay at St Marks in past 8 years. Never fails to please. New addition since last visit Xmas 2013 is the bag boy. He was available 24/7 and even to carry our many shopping bags. We were in room 56 which meant ALOT of stairs but despite the effort to climb them there was zero noise at any time... More

Staying in East Village

Neighborhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighborhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighborhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
