I stayed in this hotel for 4 nights and it was a big disappointment. The location is fantastic, lots of bars, clubs and restaurants nearby. Having stayed at Soho house last year we decided to try somewhere different. The rooms were below average and in need of care, there was loose wall paper on the walls and some items of... More

I recently stayed at the Hotel Gansevoort for a weekend with friends. I selected the hotel based on its location and reputation as a fun destination. I am a frequent traveler, and I have never encountered such incompetent service or such a lack of hospitality. On the last day of our trip, my friend and I checked out of the... More

Firstly this hotel is in a fab location, we were impressed with all the cool bars and restaurants in the area. The room was on the small side but it had everything that we needed. Breakfast was included with the room and you have two choices which isnt so bad. Unfortuantely what we didnt know was that this hotel is... More

We just got back from a lovely one-night stay at this hotel. I had been a bit worried by some of the very negative comments on this site, but we got a great rate on the Internet and the location was perfect, so off we went. I'm so glad we did. The location is indeed perfect--right in the trendy Meatpacking... More

I've stayed at the Gansevoort several times. The service is friendly and the hotel is very cool but the last two times I stayed there my room reeked of cigarette smoke mixed with something damp and stale. I had to open up the balcony doors before leaving for dinner both times to air out the room. Unless you get a... More

I'm actually writing this review from the Gansevoort, where I've just been let into my room after having to wait for a 1/2 hour while they "inspected" my room. Apparently at the Gansevoort, checking in at 530PM is considered early, and the amazingly mean and off-putting folks at the front desk let me stand there for 30 minutes until they... More

Rooms are very comfy and the hotel is in a great location: hot clubs, restaurants and culture! View wasn't that great but it didn't matter. Rooftop bar was packed and didn't have a great vibe, so we left after 10 minutes. But there were a lot of other places to choose from in the neighborhood. Crowd is young, trendy and... More

Stayed at the Gansvoort with my college roomate for a "girls' weekend" in April. Had a blast! Fantastic location. Staff was a bit snooty - particularly night concierge -- but the location made it worth while. Bring your earplugs! The room (nice) was on the street and very noisy. Gym was ok - not a lot of equipment. Breakfast was... More

I have stayed at the Gansevoort numerous times since the beginning of 2009 and have consistently found the staff to be wonderful and the rooms extremely comfortable - all have great views and plenty of room. You cannot beat the value and location, which includes many of NYC's best restaurants and shops in walking distance. I can't wait to go... More

Let me begin by saying the Ganesvoort is overpirced, dirty and a disgrce to '5 star' hotels....You should be ashamed!!!! I had travelled with my girlfriend and her family and intended to stay at the Ganesvoort for 4 nights as we had been informed it was 'the hottest place to be in New York'. I agree that the location is... More

Staying in West Village

Neighborhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighborhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
