If you want to stay in New York with a couple of friends and consider your lodgings a low priority, look no further. I read the previous reviews of Uptown Hostel (all at least 3 years old), and was a little concerned about it, but in hindsight, I'm glad we stayed here. We arrived late on Sunday and getting into... It is the most dirty place i have seen for a while. I think they are cleaning the hostel once a year. They had dirty sheets and bugs in the matrace. The bathroom didn't had a door and hot water. Everything was so dirty! Beside that there are very unfriendly an i didn' feel safe at all. New York has... More

Being on a 6 months round the world trip I have stayed in many places that weren't great, but this place tops it all. The house is falling apart, there is currently no water, let alone hot water. There is no heating, it is freezing in the house and the landlady will only laugh at you if you say something.... More

This place is a rat hole , not only is it filthy and smelly but they have bed bugs. I woke up the next day covered in painful bites all over. I filed a health department complaint to try and protect future travelers. The shower has not been cleaned in months if not years. Do your self a favor and... More

I stayed at this hostel and found it to be a fantastic little spot in New York to enjoy the sights, right next to the subway, cool and cleanly staff, and a relaxed environment for me to come to from a long day of sight seeing, a nice common room to talk to other guests from around the world about... it was my second time staying there. very cheap accomodation a block away from popeye's, starbucks, duane reade's and the express subway that will get you to manhattan in only 20 mins. love the staff, free TV, internet and kitchen to use for everyone. not 5 star clean, but ok.

I really had great time in this hostel set in harlem. Tha landlady is a little bit out of her head, but is a nice person and if you look for a job she can help you. You find yourself in the hostel with no staff at all, ´cause the lady doesn´t sleep there and comes only once in a... More

The owner is I think Russian or somewhere from Europe. But her lack of manners and education is impressive!!! She ripped off a group of girls the night before by telling them they were late and had given their room to other people. Didn't refund their money and she did the same to us (I see a pattern there!!!) The... More

I reserved a room at this hostel online. I had a family emergency and called to cancel my reservation. Apparently, the crazy landlady other reviewers have mentioned was the one who took my call. She was unbelievably rude. The first thing I said was, "I'm calling to cancel my reservation..." Without stopping to understand what I was saying, she began... More

Ok the Hostel is not so clean (especially the showers) and the owner is a bit rude and/or crazy. But she is not living in the hostel. So it is a perfect place to feel home and to meet other peoples. I really enjoyed my stay in this hostel and every people I met also did. Everyone in the hostel... More
