They made us pay the deposit before seeing the 'room' (read closet with no actual ceiling), the door was so flimsy I could have kicked it in, and Im really not the strongest at 5ft 4 & female. It looked dirty, it was noisy (even though there was hardly anyone there) but worse of all it felt SO unsafe as... More

DO NOT STAY HERE! It is a complete dive. Reasons: There are no roofs to the room and you feel like you are staying in a prison. The toilets do not flush properly and you feel like you are in a brothel. You can smell the toilets from your bedroom due to the lack of ceilings. The rooms are not... More

My stay at Bowery's Whitehouse Hotel was exactly what I was looking for - a safe place to stay at night while I explored the city during the day. If you do not mind sharing facilities and getting cozy with your neighbours, this is the place for you. I didn't mind at all, as the hotel offered me the basic... More

We booked without reading the reviews and once we had read some we were not sure what to expect. All of the people on reception were very unfriendly and wasn't happy about the fact I would not leave our passports with him whilst we went to see the room - at the time he had other people passports just lying... DO NOT STAY HERE. Instead of walls you have 6ft high partitions, there is no ceiling. You can clearly hear EVERYTHING, when someone uses the toilet it echoes through the entire floor, and with around 20-30 rooms on a floor its almost non-stop toilet time. Because there's no ceiling, light filters into your room at all hours from the other... More

I wasn't sure what to expect, but here is what I experienced at the Bowery Whitehouse Hotel: Front desk staff member was clearly unhappy with his job, and really didn't seem organized (or maybe he was really struggling to stay awake at 10:30p.m.). Really not what I wanted to encounter after 18 hours of flight back from vacation. Rooms are... More

First off, please read the other reviews so that you can get a big picture of what exactly this hostel is and that will help you temper your expectations of this budget-friendly lodging. We reserved in advance for a Saturday night; you will need a credit card (Visa or Mastercard -- NOT American Express or Discover) as they will authorize... More

I stayed here during the week of New Years with a friend and it was awesome. The location was wicked- right in the village and very close to everything. Now I have never stayed in a hostel before so I was not used to the no room service etc. and everything was giggles when I got there. However, I did... More

You definitely get what you pay for in comfortability, but the location was perfect! I also loved the staff. They were very welcoming and gave great advice on where to go or how to get around! I really appreciate Nelson's help as well. He worked a lot of the night shifts, so it was nice to be greeted by someone... More

I stayed here twice already. As a college student, there is a limit to how much I can afford on lodging in NYC. Overall, you can say "you get what you paid for." It is very economical, which I appreciate, but the bed is very basic and the shower area is semi-private (only private when you take a shower and... More
