arrived into Penn Street station mid afternoon- walked with luggage to Colonial House Inn- had basement room down two fights of stairs. Room was suited for 2 couples would be rather squashy with 5. Nice garden area to sit and review the day prior to going to dinner with unlimited choices. We walked to Chelsea Markets that same afternoon, then... More

Despite having such a small room we were very happy as after all i usually care about is a comfy bed - tick, and a great location - tick. We shared a bathroom on our floor with one or two others which was not an issue and the sink in the room was very handy especially over new years and... More

This is a nice old hotel. It is in an old 4 storey building. It is a friendly place. The continental breakfast is very good with a variety of cereals, boiled eggs, bread etc etc. Wifi is a bit slow, but OK. Since it is a very old house, it doesn't have an elevator so you have to carry your... More

We love staying in guest houses when traveling, and found Colonial House Inn charming. A fourth-floor walkup in a lovely old brick building, located in a Chelsea residential neighborhood. We stayed in room 28 on the fourth floor, with a large private bathroom and queen size bed. (Though, the community bath was actually right outside our door.) We had a... More

I don't know why anyone would want to stay in midtown Manhattan when the charms of Chelsea are so easily had when staying at the Colonial House Inn. I have stayed at Colonial House Inn on my last two trips to NYC and will stay again. It is comfortable, clean, and convenient.

My friend and I just returned from NYC where we went to run the New York City Marathon. We chose the Colonial House Inn because of it's location-Chelsea, close to subways (including for before and after the race) and the cost. We chose to stay in a two twin bed room. We realized the room would not be large and... More

As metioned in other reviews, this property's location is excellent, right in the heart of Chelsea, steps away from the E subway and one block from the 1 subway. If stairs are an issue, there is no elevator. My room (#14) was small but very clean. It even had a fireplace! Now some negatives: You do hear creaks from upper... More

The hotel looks like an old brownstone in the Chelsea district. It is about 10 blocks to Penn Station which makes it convenient. There are a large number of restaurants and bars within close walkind distance. Negatives? I only have two. This is an old building with no elevator. Been to Europe, you know the drill. Second complaint most of... More

Checked in, we echo the other guests comments about the lack of lifts... We were in room 32 in the basement and whilst the room was bigger than we expected in a city based hotel the room at street level could be quite noisy. Wifi was patchy, but the room was clean and the towels and linen were acceptable. The... More

Really friendly staff. Very close to metro station on 23rd street, so easy to reach. Safe and nice looking neighborhood. Very friendly staff. Room was small, which was fine for us. But limited space to store your luggage. Toilet and shower/bath is located in the hallway, but very closed and mostly available. They have rooms with own bathroom also, but... More
