We look forward to our return visits to Colonial House, our true home away from home. The holiday decorations & warm welcome from all the staff are a true charm! We loved the new art work throughout the house & free coffee & tea all day is wonderful.

The Colonial House Inn ticked all the boxes for us. We stayed 4 nights. Good price, clean rooms and bathrooms, comfortable beds, great breakfast, attentive staff and the Chelsea location is just perfect for exploring NYC. Subway stop just a half block away but why go underground. The only way to see this amazing city is to walk. It's an... More

This is really about the room which was barely bigger than the bed. It has a sink which spares you some trips to the communal bathroom (one per floor). That said the premises are maintained clean, including the bathroom, so it's not a horrific experience. As I have almost nothing to review about the room (not even a closet), it... More

If you want to save some money when in NYC (and I run a not for prof, so I do) this is the place! This is a quiet brownstone, lovely area, and super nice staff. Brand new remodeled bathroom in my room, fireplace, large bed and small TV. Extra for wi-fi, but so what, amazing breakfast and great coffee. Good... More

I was very excited to be coming to Colonial House Inn as I lived two doors down from 318 in my early twenties. When I arrived I found the staff member to be aloof and distracted by my appearance and needs. I found I had a four floor walk up. That was not a problem except for my luggage. The... More

To be honest, I would prefer to write a really bad review, just to make sure the hotel does not get pricier or fully booked next time I am in NYC. :-) The staff was as friendly and supportive as I could hope for (well, the blond lady at the reception was a bit reserved the first evening, but then... We stayed at the Colonial House during a cool spell in July 2014. The rooms we got (in the West End Suite) were, although far from cheap, bigger than anything we expected to get in New York City at a price we could afford, with a large bedroom, good sized sitting room, small kitchen and private bath and shower. The... More

We really enjoyed this charming old-fashioned hotel adviced by "Guide du Routard" which is ideally located a bit away from New York busy areas but very close to everything. We were accommodated first in the Paradise Suite Garden which is really nice with an awesome jacuzzi and a small garden but no kitchen at all (should be specify in ads).... More

I loved my comfortable room with its large bed and crisp sheets. I loved my renovated bathroom. I loved the friendly staff in this inn where breakfast is free and where they booked me a car to JFK for a very good tarif. I loved the quiet street where this inn is situated near to Chelsea market and the Midtown... More

This property needs a serious makeover. The rooms look like they were done in the 90's and have not been updated. The only plus to this property is the location. Be warned there is no elevator so if do have to stay here get a ground floor room.

Staying in Chelsea

Neighborhood Profile
Chelsea
Home to hundreds of art galleries, beautiful brownstones, and one of New York’s newest and most popular attractions, Chelsea is one of the city’s jewels when it comes to neighborhood life. The contemporary art scene is an integral part of the neighborhood’s identity, with gallery openings almost every night of the week and countless exhibits to explore. As a longtime hub of gay culture in New York City, it’s also a diverse district with a vibrant nightlife scene. The opening of the High Line, an abandoned elevated train track transformed into a world-class pedestrian park, gave this neighborhood new life as a tourist destination. The High Line provides visitors with a tranquil, elevated space with incomparable views, providing an unparalleled way to experience the city.
