We loved staying at the GEM hotel, the staff was great, and helpful. Our room was perfect for our needs, we had 3 of us staying together, and the room packed in the comfort, coffee maker, refridgerator, great comfortable beds! NY sized bathrooms (small but nice) and room size (small but nice). Nothing fancy, but met our needs nicely for... More

The Gem is amazingly situated between Soho, East Village and the Lower East Side. The hotel is clean and basic, but very comfortable with extremely approachable and friendly front desk staff. Priced as NYC hotels are, you pay more than in other cities, but it is simply worth in for the location, and a little pricacy in the heart of... More

Stayed for 3 nights in Sept for a business trip/visiting friends. The good: Starting at check-in, the staff here were super-nice, genuinely caring, funny, and attentive! Issues I ran into that they totally helped with: 1. connecting my iPad to the free wifi (they had an iPad at the front desk so they knew how to use one!) 2. ceiling... More

My wife and I stayed recently for a weekend away from our 2-yr old son (she stayed longer for business). Like many have said, the hotel is tiny (that's why I give the hotel 3 instead of 4 stars -- that, and the noise) -- tiny front desk, tiny hallways, tiny foyer (if you can call it a foyer), and... What can I say? It was perfect: the room very clean, the position amazing (just a few meters from the subway and in such a cool neighborhood) and the prize very competitive. The only "bad" part about the hotel is that the rooms are VERY small. We luckily got a double bed room, a must if you are travelling with... More

The Gem hotel was wonderful! A true gem! My friend and I went to NYC for labor day weekend and stayed here. The hotel was cute, rooms were small, but what rooms aren't in NYC. The location was great with lots of restaurants within walking distance! The only downside was that breakfast wasn't provided but there is Whole Foods next... More

This hotel was very clean. Staff was very nice and helpful. I loved the location. I could walk to Chinatown, Little italy, Greenwich Village, etc, 1 block from a Whole Foods store which was very convenient.

This is a hidden gem in a great location. Very clean, but small, rooms right next to a small park. Everyone who worked at this hotel that I had contact with was incredibly friendly, helpful, and welcoming. Anthony at the front desk is hands down the best front desk person I have ever dealt with at a NYC hotel. We... More

The room was very small. We were very disappointed we had such a difficult time getting around because it was so crowded even with 2 bags of luggage. It does have your own air/heat control, which was nice, it was a block from the Subway which was also nice, but only one subway train from uptown-Times Square area actually stopped... More

My wife and I stayed at the hotel on Canada Day/Independance Day weekend (July 1st - July 4th). Our initial day was stressful as we missed our flight and arrived the next morning only to find that our room had been sold and we had to wait, even though our reservation was from the Wednesday night and had been paid...
