I recently stayed with my twin teens. Beds were comfy. Room and bath were a bit small but nice touches such as makeup washcloth, built in soap and shampoo. Locations was great for our tour of NYU. Close to Chinatown, SOHO. The people at the front desk were awesome - helpful and friendly. And the price was right!

I checked in very late having arrived from DC and was given a small room in the basement which had only a head height window. Nothing else was available however I was moved the next day to a 4th floor room which was fine. Room was comfortable if a little small, but that's NYC for you. Good wifi. Whole Foods... More

Smallish, but updated room. Great front desk staff. Free on street parking next to hotel. Park next door is a little shady, but this is New York City. Huge savings for a hotel in Manhattan. Great Value.

This was a great hotel in a great location with a decent price for NYC. The room size was good and the bed comfortable. Lots of great places to eat within walking distance with subway stop a few feet away. It was also a quick walk to Greenwich Village & NYU. I will definitely stay here again.

Traveling through NY on Tour. Four piece quartet. Stayed in ten different accommodations on this tour without a complaint- except for this hotel. When we arrived with gear and suitcases we found the elevator broke (for the whole stay), the door to the storage room (where people can securely leave luggage) was off the hinges, there was a towel in... Good for a short stay. The rooms were small, but very clean. The staff was nice and very helpful. Rooms were also very comfortable. Many restaurants nearby and shops too. It was a great stay! I would recommend this hotel

I chose The Gem for the walking distance to Strala Yoga studio. It was next to a Whole Foods - a plus. Sweet area of NY. The Diversity of staff was heartwarming, my favourite part. Tiny rooms, its NY.

Small room (typical in NYC), but very nice and very clean. Staff was courteous and professional. Great water pressure in bath. Comfy bed. Located near a park and right next to a great Whole Foods store. Only drawback to the location is that it's right on noisy Houston Street.
