It was a big dream for my parents (54yo) and me (18yo) to visit New York in May 2015. We come from Germany and it was our first time in the USA. So we had no idea where to stay. And so we searched for a place to stay. But it is no exaggeration to say that we found much... More

Tressie is just one of the most friendly and amazing host I have ever met! She was very welcoming and was always helpful. We were very well looked after during our short stay here, there is plenty of info about the local area and Tressie even gave us her mobile number telling us to call her if we needed some... More

We enjoyed our stay there. Tressi is the best, wonderful hostess! So kind and funny, and what a smile! Makes really good breakfast, so you don't need to worry about finding cafes first thing in the morning. Although, there are plenty of restaurants and winehouses in the neighbourhood. The building is lovely and furnishing very stylish and unique! Every room... More

We stayed in Heart of Harlem B&B for 3 nights during our short stay in New York city. Tressi wasn't initially available herself, but her son introduced us to our room and was very friendly and welcoming. We saw Tressi every day at breakfast and she was very friendly and more than happy to answer any queries about the accommodation... More

Great place with a "homey" feeling to stay at. The breakfast is awesome and different everyday. Landlady makes you feel more than welcome. Some could argue that it is located a bit far from the main attractions in NYC but if you don't mind walking and using the subway it is fine. The brown brick house and neighborhood has character.

We have just returned from a week stay at The Heart of Harlem and felt compelled to write a review as the place is just great. We (myself, hubby and kids 5 and 3) had a great time, the room was spotlessly clean, spacious and more than comfortable with a double and 2 singles (one in a small adjoining room). We... More

Myself and a few friends wanted to visit the mighty New York to see what all the craic is. Naturally we read the reviews here on Trip Advisor and The Heart of Harlem really shone out. What a gem of a place. The moment we arrived, it naturally felt like home. Tressi is warm and welcoming and full of tips... More

Staying in Harlem

Neighborhood Profile
Harlem
As a hub of African American culture, Harlem has played a vital role in the history of New York City. Today, the neighborhood is as vibrant as ever as new businesses and developments go up next to local institutions. The heart of the neighborhood is bustling 125th Street, where street vendors and historic landmarks like the Apollo Theater mingle with big-name stores. Turn down almost any corner, and you’ll discover some of the most beautiful blocks in the city, filled with handsome brownstones, soul food restaurants, corner shops, and scenic parks. For a taste of a real New York neighborhood, it’s hard to top a visit to Harlem.
