We booked the James for a "staycation" over Memorial Day weekend with our main purpose of enjoying their rooftop pool. Unfortunately, our experience left a lot to be desired. The pool apparently is managed by the rooftop bar the Jimmy and apparently they are under new management which explains the service issues. First of all, there was no drink/food service... More

This Hotel is for the urban turist. In Soho near to china town, little italy and tribeca, better location for design and epicurian food lovers. purist but with personality, the rooms on the coorner are cool. the sky Bar is unique.

The corner King rooms are pricey but you get a great view. The rooftop pool (in season) is small but fine for a few laps and the view while swimming is pretty unique. The Burke kitchen adjacent has a good menu and lots of nooks and crannies in the outdoor part for a nice breakfast, lunch or cozy drinks -... More

We booked the James for 1 night as a getaway from our home in Brooklyn while our parents watched our daughter. We wanted to feel pampered and just relax. I found the James via my credit card points program and it was listed there as 5 star and most reviews looked good. But...we definitely picked the wrong hotel (my bad,... More

After you work your way through the confusing, sparsely-decorated entrance and manage to find the third floor lobby, the James doesn't disappoint -- modern, stylish, comfortable rooms with luxurious bathrooms, and generally great service from the front desk staff. And breakfast in the David Burke restaurant in the basement is consistently excellent.

This is a boutique hotel that relies on its good location and roof bar (if you can get onto it!!) The lobby reception is tired and the artworks needing attention! The staff are surly with the exception of the porters who were charming. Check your bill as you might get charged for mini bar when you haven't actually had anything.... More

We have stayed at this hotel several times and it is now our default hotel in New York. The location in the heart of SoHo is perfect for great access to shopping and restaurants. The hotel itself is gorgeous, with high-quality amenities and decor. And they do a very good job of making you feel special and looked after throughout... More

The James Hotel has a good location with lots of shops, restaurants, bars etc. around. The hotel is modern and clean, with great twists to the interior design, such as cool art pieces. Our room was comfortable and spacious, and the view was great overlooking other high rise buildings. It really brought it home to us that we were in... More

Staying in SoHo

Neighborhood Profile
SoHo
Once the artistic hub of New York, SoHo is now one of the premiere shopping destinations in the world. Housing everything from the most popular luxury brands to swank boutiques you won’t find anywhere else, this is a sophisticated shopper’s dream come true. Broadway is teeming with big-name stores and people during the day, while Prince and Spring Streets are the other main drags to explore. Take a detour down the quieter side streets to see the real star of the district – the world’s largest collection of intricate and elegant cast-iron architecture. What were once warehouses and art studios are now meticulously restored loft buildings favored by many of New York’s celebrities, making SoHo one of the trendiest addresses in the city.
