Our family of four stayed at the Shanti Suites located on East 3rd Street not in the main building on Stanton Street. We took a suite with two queen beds and a small kitchen area. Space was definitely tight but you can't complain for the price and quality. The suite was nicely furnished and very clean. The neighborhood was fine... More

Room is very nice, but the 'extra's' leave a negative feeling: on arrival we were stuck outside at 1.30 in the morning, despite 2 emails to the office and manager. Neighbour told us that people frequently are stuck outside. Same friendly neighbour called the office but no reply and manager only picked up after 2nd attempt. He started arguing that... More

We just returned from our long weekend in NYC where we had a studio at the Stanton Street location. This really is a great option for seasoned travelers who don't expect many perks. You have a clean, safe, comfortable space to kick back in while in town. The rooms, while comfortable, are not without their qwerks. If you were not... More

Really is a sanctuary in the Lower East Side (Stanton St location). Modern building that lives up to the photos on their site. We are a family of 2 adults and 3 children and were very comfortable in the Rama suite. Full kitchen, very clean, great value with the winter pricing. Great location in a "real" neighbourhood. We Will definitely... More

all ok, good value for the money. It is not as easy as it should be to locate staff when you need them, but the rooms are nice and well equipped. Good location if you are searching for the NYC of real ppl, not the 1% we see on tv. Subway close, great restaurants and bars nearby, laundromat and grocery... More

We stayed 4 people in the Sita Suite. It was very spacious, with a room for the kids, and a really nice big bathroom. The neighborhood was great with a lot of good restaurants at reasonable prices. I'll defintely stay there next time I visit NYC.

Aside from the location - which is right in the heart of the lower east side (NYC), home to beautiful, kitschy shops, amazing restaurants, and great music and entertainment venues - the rooms are fantastic! Plenty of space, little to no noise from the busy city streets, comforting aesthetics, and a mission statement that anyone can get behind, Sanctuary Guest... More

My husband and I stayed a few nights during our first trip to NYC. The Sanctuary-Stanton exceeded our expectations with its atmosphere. Many hotels are clean and comfortable; but here we truly felt at home--and enjoyed that it was extremely clean, had a VERY comfortable bed (and that's important to us), was quiet, very nicely equipped, decorated, and furnished, and... I've had the pleasure of staying at Sanctuary Guest Suites a number of times. What keeps bringing me back is the zen-like atmosphere, the accommodating staff, and the super comfy beds. It also really nice to stay at place that gives back to their community the way Sanctuary does. They are involved with a program called Food For Life-- which... More

Staying in Lower East Side

Neighborhood Profile
Lower East Side
Straddling the bridge between New York’s thriving immigrant past and its modern transformation into a beacon of global art and culture, the Lower East Side is one of the most dynamic neighborhoods in the city. The blocks of tenements that represented the promise and blight of the Lower East Side immigrant experience now command top dollar for new residents. Right next to old-world delis, 24-hour bodegas, and the garment shops of Orchard Street, you’ll find hip clubs, fashionable bistros, and luxury hotels beckoning at all hours of the evening. If you love nightlife and live music, it’s hard to beat the scene here.
