After being stranded in New York unexpectedly due to a flight cancellation my partner and I found La Sienna instantly while browsing hostels. We called the lady who said she could make a room available for us 1 hour after we called. Once we arrived, the lady was absolutely helpful and understanding. She provided us with a beautiful room for... More

We really enjoyed our stay at la sienna. The room we stayed in was extremely clean and bathroom facilities. We loved the dog bailey being around and I was most impressed with yvettes kind heart with animals. Harlem is fantastic and not hard to get into seeing the sights of Manhattan by subway or via taxi, which is inexpensive. Decent... More

On approaching La Sienna you are taken by the lovely brownstone buildings in a tree lined road. Located only three minutes walk from W125 street subway station means good access to the rest of the city, taking the A line express train takes only 20 minutes to Pennsylvania Station. Central Park is only 13 blocks south. All subways we used... More

I recently spent three very comfortable nights at La Sienna. I arrived quite late at night but this was no problem (I emailed in advance) and I was warmly greeted by the host (who I've sadly forgotten the name of but she was a very friendly and helpful lady). I was travelling alone so I stayed in a single room,... More

If you want a room for a few nights with great connections via the subway to New York City, this is the place. It's $2.50 to anywhere from Harlem, don't bother with taxis. The hotel itself is clean throughout, our host was fantastic and full of information. The only letdown for us being a couple, was the size of the... More

We stayed 5 nights in room number 3. The room was very clean, the common bathroom and toilet too. Its just a 5 minute walk to the subway, with all connections you need. The hostel is located in a quiet and relax neighbourhood, also at night very safe. If you are travelling on a budget but don't want to end... More

We had a wonderful 4 night stay at La Sienna. Yvette, the host, is such a lovely warm person. I was very unwell during my stay with a chest cold and Yvette made me and my husband a big pot of yummy chicken soup! She went above and beyond to make sure her guests are comfortable and happy. Our ground... More

Excellent value for money. Building had nicely restored character. Rooms reasonable size with very comfortable beds and good hd cable tv. Around 400 meter walk to the subway, which is also an express station (the white dots on the NYC subway maps) meaning express trains only take around 10ish minutes to reach time squre as they only stop at certain... I stayed in La Sienna in April and it was amazing. The first thing is the owner Ivette. What a great host ! First she makes you feel welcome but the place is well maintained. Our room was spacious and very clean. The place is very convenient also as you have the express trains around the corner so time square... More

La Sienna was a perfectly nice place to stay while visiting New York. We stayed for a week and encountered few problems, besides a few incidents where the owner forgot a couple of things when we first checked in. The shared bathroom wasn't really an issue at all, and location-wise it couldn't be easier to get to both central Manhattan... More

Staying in Harlem

Neighborhood Profile
Harlem
As a hub of African American culture, Harlem has played a vital role in the history of New York City. Today, the neighborhood is as vibrant as ever as new businesses and developments go up next to local institutions. The heart of the neighborhood is bustling 125th Street, where street vendors and historic landmarks like the Apollo Theater mingle with big-name stores. Turn down almost any corner, and you’ll discover some of the most beautiful blocks in the city, filled with handsome brownstones, soul food restaurants, corner shops, and scenic parks. For a taste of a real New York neighborhood, it’s hard to top a visit to Harlem.
