I stayed at the hostel for a week as part of an alternative spring break program offered by my university. The Bathrooms were disgustingly dirty like they hadnt been cleaned in months. The basement level were the open kitchen is wreaked of rotten food because the open refrigerators were you are allowed to leave your own food were stuffed with... more

Stayed here with a friend of mine on the way back from AK..The place is huge and crowded...It was about 2 AM when we arrived there, yet it was still busy.. We had to wait for about half an hour to check-in. The staff is not a smiling type, but at least they are helpful..You have free wi-fi access at the... more

We stayed at the YHI in NY in Dec 2007 and were not dissapointed! We had a private family room and it consisted of 1 queen size bed and bunks. The bathrooms were very clean and washing was really cheap! Breakfast can be purchased in the cafe downstairs for a minimal fee. The hostel is huge and we felt very... more

For about $35 a night you get what you need. Bathrooms could be cleaner, and the communal areas are full of drones on their laptops, but I would highly recommend this place as somewhere cheap and cheerful to stay near Central Park. more

As far as hostels go, you could do much worse in NYC. This place is far uptown but in a safe neighborhood. It has no curfew but also has a strict no alcohol policy, and lacks a sense of community, largely because it lacks a morning breakfast. There is a shared kitchen and backyard grill, as well as a TV... more

I stayed here in 2000 and had a good time, and so had no real problems with coming back for a second go in 2009. I booked into a room of 10. The service was quick and friendly, and my room was clean. I went to use the internet one night, and the PC crashed. I went to the front... more

We took a girls weekend to NYC for some last minute x-mas shopping. There were 4 of us & we booked a 4 bunk room. The price was good ($34/night) , the lockers were huge, we were about a block from the subway. BUT: there was no heat in our room and it was December in NYC. We got extra... more

We arrived in our 6 bedroom dorm, which was poorly arranged and lacked space for the amount we paid. If only this had been the least of our problems. The rats which came out of the air conditioning unit where dismissed by staff as nothing at all. In fact the staff where most unhelpful in the situation and almost made... more

Where do I begin.... I had never stayed in a hostel before so I was a bit worried but I cannot speak highly enough of the Hostel International in the Upper West Side. As a small town Aussie girl I felt so safe here and it was very clean, conveniently located and great value for money. The lockers were big... more

What a perfect location for your first night in New York. I'd stayed here before years ago, so technically this was my second first night in New York - it was just as exciting, maybe even more so cause this time I was on my own and kind of knew where I was : ) Really easy to access the... more
