DISGUSTING!!! Upon unpacking, I found condoms & lube in my left bedstand. I pulled back sheets- filthy- with hair. Bedding was not clean. Night manager wanted to move me to another room- upon entering 2nd room- with him- I checked night stand, and AGAIN found condoms- together we pulled back bedding- more hair & clearly not changed. None of my...

The staff is unfriendly and unprofessional. If you call with a question or complaint and request to speak to a manager you can plan on having to follow up to get anywhere. Even then all you get is the run around and no real answers.
I would not recommend staying here with all of the other choices out there.

We had booked the hotel quite a few months back for the Thanksgiving weekend. I was a bit nervous since the reviews can be really good or really bad. But our stay was wonderful. The room is small, so I was prepared for that. But we really were not in the room too much with all there is to do in...

Dear Johnny,
I am sorry that we didn't meet your expectations during your stay. Our rooms are average for comparable rooms in New York City. Many are surprised at the size of rooms in our city. In order to be a "green hotel", we do not change your sheets or towels unless you specifically request that we do. We are...

My husband was attending a conference at the nearby Javitz Convention Center and booked our room and the room of a coworkers for three days. Imagine our surprise, then, when we were told we only had both rooms booked for two days. What makes this more surprising is that my husband *called the week before* to confirm, and everything was...

Dear Guest,
I am sorry that your stay didn't end very well. Our reservations department does ask every guest if they would like their confirmation number or a confirmation email. We do not change any guests' reservation without their consent or a request directly from the guest. Due to our proximity to the Javits Center, we do sell out quickly...

Good midtown location. A little pricey at an average of $270USD per night. Rooms were a little tight - okay for a single traveller but a bit much for 2. No restaurant onsite. Complimentary internet access. Bathroom was decent size. Other than a bit small, room was clean and neat.

Greetings Guest from Houston,
Thank you for your kinds words in regards to your past stay. While we do not have a restaurant onsite, there is a fantastic array of restaurants a few shorts blocks away from our hotel where you can try a slice of New York. We do have larger rooms with 2 full beds that can easily...

New hotel, well appointed and modern with comfortable bed, lovely satin sheets and lots of good pillows. Room small but adequate. The bathroom was well supplied and clean. Not cheap the night I stayed ($309) but compared to other hotels this cost much less than most. Not much to do in that area without walking several blocks. The TV did...

So, I tried to be optimistic in my review of this hotel (because the front desk staff was so friendly and helpful). But, beyond that, this 39-room little hotel near Hell's Kitchen isn't all that precious.
Here's what shines about the Gem:
- good proximity to Times Square and other touristy hot spots
- the neighborhood is pretty safe (I...
