I stayed here during the "historic" blizzard of 2015. The hotel is nice enough, but on the last day of my stay, after working an 11 hour day and trudging through several blocks of torrential wind and snow, I entered the hotel only to be accosted by the two people working at the front desk, who were somehow able to... Great location. Nothing special in the facilities department. Nice clean room, and very friendly staff at the desk. Couple of water bottles await you in the room, which is nice. The views are not spectacular (side of another building).

The room was very clean and very quiet -- that's the most important thing. There was also free wi-fi and coffee in the room -- an added bonus. The staff, as other people have commented, is incredibly friendly and helpful. The downside is the room is very small, but it was just me so that didn't matter much. I was... More

This hotel is a gem. It is small, charming, quiet, tastefully decorated, very comfortable, nicely appointed and immaculately kept. Since I like getting outside air into my room, I was delighted to find windows that open. The staff were superb, friendly, professional, helpful, knowledgeable and well informed. I was in the city to attend the Affordable Art Fair; held each... More

My business partner and I were looking for a hotel near where the Bolt Bus drops us when we travel to NYC - the Javits Center. The GEM is a few blocks away and an easy place to leave bags. It's a bit of a hike in bad weather to the closest subway and you have to cross some nasty... More

The hotel is a quick walk to Penn Station Subway line, lots of great restaurants just a couple blocks away and the king-sized room on the 9th floor was simple, tasteful and comfortable. The best thing about the hotel, though, was the staff. Ashley provided amazing recommendations for restaurants and was very accommodating. Ask for ASHLEY!!

I stayes two nights at the Gem. The room was small but just right for my needs, with all I needed. The staff at the front desk were very friendly and helpful. The location is good - not in the middle of Mannhatan, but close enough to central essentials and public transportation.

Nice hotel. Rooms are small but it did not bother us. Staff was great. Very helpful. My mom got sick while we were there and the staff helped us find a walk-in clinic. Nearby local eateries. A good non-touristy feel. It is a bit of a walk to subway but not far.

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
