I recently visited the GEM Hotel in Chelsea. I do not have any problems with the customer service although they gave me wrong directions but it happens. So here is the problem with this hotel: 1) Rooms are super small. 2) You can hear a lot through the walls. There was a baby crying in a room not far away... More

I was there for 3 nights on a business trip. I felt happy to be on the 5th floor even though it was a very small and basic room. The location is fine and the service is nice. The big problem was having both the elevator AND the Wi-Fi breakdown on the second night. After climbing 5 floors up the... More

The hotel is 10 minutes walk to the High Line and 2 minutes away from the subway. Great places for food nearby too. The room was small, clean, and had a comfortable bed. If all you're looking for is a convenient place to sleep, this is worth the money.

First the location is very good, the prices are what gets you to book this hotel if you don't want to spend a lot of money just to sleep and shower. I have stayed tons of hotels in NYC, and paid way to much for a bed and shower. If you don't expect anything more from a hotel then this... More

Clean and functional. Location was the prime reason for choosing the hotel. Within walking distance of Chelsea Market and with a subway station a few yards away. Main drawback was lack of storage for clothes etc. If you are here for a few days it's fine but would struggle for longer. Could hear the sounds of the city all through... More

I couldn't believe how quiet it was. Was I really in NYC? For breakfast, snacks, beer, or anything you want there is a really nice grocery/restaurant right next door. The staff was very nice, the location was great, and the bed was comfortable. We wish that it was warmer so we could take advantage of the rooftop lounge.

The rooms are small, but nicely decorated and clean. I found the staff friendly and the location just right for what I had to do while in NYC. The Boutique decor is quite lovely and complimentary coffee and tea amenties are offered in each room. Nice rooftop deck as a bonus for one's stay.

Nice clean hotel. Small rooms even for NY standard, but would stay here again because of the atmosphere. Great location and an amazing rooftop terrace with a great view (you can see Empire State). I recommend this hotel.

The rooms are small, but clean, the staff is very friendly, and the location is perfect. I stay on business mostly, and when I am in NYC with my wife we splurge a bit more, but the GEM Chelsea(I haven't stayed at the others) has always been my go to. I have stayed about 10 times in the last 5... More

The Gem is a boutique hotel with a nice modern, yet cozy feel to it. The rooms are very small, but most are in NYC, so that was to be expected. If you are hoping to have amazing city views you may want to stay elsewhere as this hotel is only 5 floors and the windows are pretty small. That... More

Staying in Chelsea

Neighborhood Profile
Chelsea
Home to hundreds of art galleries, beautiful brownstones, and one of New York’s newest and most popular attractions, Chelsea is one of the city’s jewels when it comes to neighborhood life. The contemporary art scene is an integral part of the neighborhood’s identity, with gallery openings almost every night of the week and countless exhibits to explore. As a longtime hub of gay culture in New York City, it’s also a diverse district with a vibrant nightlife scene. The opening of the High Line, an abandoned elevated train track transformed into a world-class pedestrian park, gave this neighborhood new life as a tourist destination. The High Line provides visitors with a tranquil, elevated space with incomparable views, providing an unparalleled way to experience the city.
