I spent £200 ($320) per day staying there for 5 days. When I checked in, I was shocked. The lobby was very small and shabby, and was being heavily renovated. The workers were scraping the ceiling literally over my head. They tried to convert it to a bar (for more income?). I wound't be impressed by anything happening there because... More

The day after I arrived at The Gem, I received an unsolicited email from choicehotels.com. Coincidentally, my colleague who was also staying there had the same experience. I'm not going to go into details to explain exactly why I am sure that my details were shared but this was incredibly unlikely without The Gem connection. There is no reference to... More

ok lets do the obvious first... The rooms are small, but they have everything you need and well it's NYC, what are you doing in your room other than sleeping? Undergoing renovations whilst I was here, but that wasn't a huge issue. My room was clean, warm, quiet and comfortable. Staff were incredibly courteous and well, the location is truly... More

I stayed at the Gem Chelsea over the November 1st weekend and departed on the 4th. It was my wife's first time in NY and we spent our 10 year anniversary at this property. From my initial contact with the hotel while booking until we left was excellent. We were upgraded to the Penthouse and the view from our private... More

Spent the weekend while visiting my daughters. Great location and friendly front desk staff. Quiet and is a superior selection over those Meat Packing hotels that are nothing by loud and party centrals well into the early morning hours. Enjoyed the roof deck both nights even this time of year. Yes, the rooms are small but very adequate with updated... More

I stayed in the Gem ChElsea this past weekend and was shocked when I checked in. First of all, the lobby is really non-existent, so the nice pictures on the website are very misleading. There is no lounge - just a small check in space, with light bulbs hanging from the ceiling, and obviously under construction. Then there is the... More

The lobby is under construction currently, so don't be surprised. The room was very small, but clean and had everything you needed. The place is good for a night or two, but after that I think I'd want a larger room especially with 2 people in it. The bed was not the most comfortable, with squeaky springs, seemed old. The... Hard to find fault with the location, but the rooms are surprisingly small (and I have stayed in small NYC rooms before). No room to move and no space provided to unpack and store clothing. Be prepared to live out of your suitcase.
