Stayed here for just a single night for a job interview. Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Room was nice, although the first room they gave me hadn't been cleaned yet, but that was fixed quickly. The breakfast was a bit light compared to most hotels, but since this is in Manhattan, I can't really complain that much.

Wonderful location, great service staff, lovely reception with great espresso bar, nice rooms. The rooms are small but very well appointed. And I like quaint and cosy when I am in New York. Works for me!

I needed a conveniently located place to stay while attending an event and attending meetings and the Gem fit the bill. The staff was friendly and attentive to my needs. Rooms are of varying sizes and mine was small but extremely efficient. I don't need much, so anything larger would have been lost on me! I did not manage to... More

Very, very nice location : the hotel is next to a subway station, and near Chelsea (and Gansevoort) Market. The rooms are very clean. Not that big, but who's coming to New York to stay in a hotel room, right ? Be sure to check out the roof-top. At night there's a nice view at the top of the Empire... More

I stayed at the Gem Chelsea twice during my tour of America and was very impressed with the service I received both times. The rooms are clean and well maintained. There were all of the necessary amenities and the shower was lovely. I was a little annoyed to be charged for the use of the safe as this came complimentary... More

I stayed at the Gem on a whim and was very pleased that I found this hidden little Gem. Having booked my stay just an hour before checkin time, the staff were very friendly and accommodating, while our room was being prepared. Jasmin Rivera, the hotel desk clerk, greeted us with a smile and was so friendly the entire stay.... More

Absolutely the best location - after touring all day you come back to a neighbourhhod that is quieter but still has a great admosphere, great restaurants and is walking distance to all subway lines The rooms are small but we still managed to have 3 suitcases and all our clothes stored in the cupboard for our 2 weeks stuff Bathroom... Our second stay here. Yes the rooms are small and lack storage but everything else is excellent. Location is spot on, near the action but still away from the hustle and bustle, there are plenty of shops and dining options close by and a metro station within a minutes walk; and the staff are very very friendly and helpful. This is truly a hidded GEM (pun intended)! This hotel is always clean, the rooms have everything you need and nothing you don't. They are small but this IS NYC..and these rooms are a great value. The front desk staff are always helpful and courteous. ( Shout out to Sabrina!!). The roof top deck is the cream on top...there are... More

Staying in Chelsea

Neighborhood Profile
Chelsea
Home to hundreds of art galleries, beautiful brownstones, and one of New York’s newest and most popular attractions, Chelsea is one of the city’s jewels when it comes to neighborhood life. The contemporary art scene is an integral part of the neighborhood’s identity, with gallery openings almost every night of the week and countless exhibits to explore. As a longtime hub of gay culture in New York City, it’s also a diverse district with a vibrant nightlife scene. The opening of the High Line, an abandoned elevated train track transformed into a world-class pedestrian park, gave this neighborhood new life as a tourist destination. The High Line provides visitors with a tranquil, elevated space with incomparable views, providing an unparalleled way to experience the city.
