Very friendly helpful staff. The only reason it didn't get a 5 is not actually the hotel's fault. We stayed Friday and Saturday nights it was very quiet until 5 AM. Music started at 5AM it wasn't blaring, but definitely noticeable. It didn't wake me but it did wake my sister. The room was clean and very well laid out,... More

We visited our son in NYC this weekend and stayed at the Gem Hotel in Chelsea. Our room was small but clean with adequate storage and an updated bathroom. The staff were polite and helpful. Next door is a small grocery and restaurant, so we had everything we needed. The price is hard to beat. We'll be back!

Friendly staff and the location make this hotel a great place to stay. The rooms are clean. The rooms are very small. I've never stayed in a smaller room anywhere in the world. There is very little room to walk and closet space is extremely limited. Despite the room size I would stay here again.

This was a no-frills place, quite adequate for a short trip, and good value for money in the Chelsea neighborhood. The staff were friendly and welcoming. (Tripadvisor requiring 200 chars for a review is annoying, and an invitation for trivial fillers. Brevity is the soul of wit)

Great location! room was small, but clean and what more do you need in NYC. It will be nice when the roof top can open back up and you have your little coffee bar set up. The staff was great as well, can't forget them. Thanks

Sodtayed on a Fri & Sat for outing in NYC. Perfect location. Front desk is gracious and professional. Easy check in, all questions and/or concerns very well met. Bottle opener late at night....no problem! Forager's downstairs is wonderful for brunch, lunch or dinner with a market and wine store, all organic (farm to table). Rooms are small but excellent sleeping,... More

the GEM Hotel Chelsea is a great affordable option located in one of the best neighborhoods in Manhatten. Tons of restaurants and shops are all within a short walk. The lobby was recently remodeled and looks very chic. The rooms are small but have all the necessary amenities to ensure your time in NYC is good. They also have an... More

We enjoyed our stay here. Hotel was nicer than we expected given the price. Tiny rooms, but that's NYC. Besides, we were hardly in our rooms except to sleep. Nice rooftop with great view of the Empire State building and others. Probably our favorite thing about this establishment. Caution, some rooms only have a view of the side of the... More

Cold both in some of the treatment I received and in the heat! The location is excellent, steps away from the subway. The hotel is also very clean, which is a plus. Other than that, I have nothing else good to say. 'cold' in the title has a double meaning on this occasion, read on for more: Rooms are very... More

Staying in Chelsea

Neighborhood Profile
Chelsea
Home to hundreds of art galleries, beautiful brownstones, and one of New York’s newest and most popular attractions, Chelsea is one of the city’s jewels when it comes to neighborhood life. The contemporary art scene is an integral part of the neighborhood’s identity, with gallery openings almost every night of the week and countless exhibits to explore. As a longtime hub of gay culture in New York City, it’s also a diverse district with a vibrant nightlife scene. The opening of the High Line, an abandoned elevated train track transformed into a world-class pedestrian park, gave this neighborhood new life as a tourist destination. The High Line provides visitors with a tranquil, elevated space with incomparable views, providing an unparalleled way to experience the city.
