the GEM Hotel Chelsea is a great affordable option located in one of the best neighborhoods in Manhatten. Tons of restaurants and shops are all within a short walk. The lobby was recently remodeled and looks very chic. The rooms are small but have all the necessary amenities to ensure your time in NYC is good. They also have an... More

We enjoyed our stay here. Hotel was nicer than we expected given the price. Tiny rooms, but that's NYC. Besides, we were hardly in our rooms except to sleep. Nice rooftop with great view of the Empire State building and others. Probably our favorite thing about this establishment. Caution, some rooms only have a view of the side of the... More

Cold both in some of the treatment I received and in the heat! The location is excellent, steps away from the subway. The hotel is also very clean, which is a plus. Other than that, I have nothing else good to say. 'cold' in the title has a double meaning on this occasion, read on for more: Rooms are very... More

Those are wonderful room pictures on the website I wonder what hotel they were taken. The location the staff and the cleanliness of the rooms are wonderful however the room size reminds me of a college dorm or smaller. The hotel has zero amenities, no bar, no weight room no food service. If you're looking for great location in Chelsea... More

The rooms are compact yet efficient. They are very clean and the bathrooms are regulation size with a roomy shower. This hotel is perfect for the City if you are going to be out and about and intend on just sleeping and showering here. We would definitely reccomend The Gem.

Great hotel even though the rooms are small, it has a nice bed and a great shower and that is what I value the most during a city trip! It could have been a little bit bigger because you need to store your luggage but you'll manage.

The rooms are small, but efficient. The location is great and the front desk was helpful! The room was very clean and had a great shower. The Forager's next door has delicious healthy food. I would eat there every day.

The three best things about this hotel are the location, the service and the cleanliness of the bedrooms. The things that we're not so good include the size of the rooms and the lack of a bar - however the hotel is undergoing a refit and the bar should be available soon. The location in Chelsea was excellent! There were... More

Stayed in NY before Christmas and this is a new favorite hotel. Close to the theater area, Columbus Circle and close to the subways. On 22nd and 8th streets so handy if you want to go to the High Line and Meatpacking area. Clean, modern and well appointed for a small room, but then this is NY and far larger... More

My husband and I stayed here for a night while visiting NYC. It was cute, rooms very small (which was totally fine with us) and we got it for a great rate. I am guessing that the weekend after Christmas and before New Years is a less desirable weekend so rates are lower. NYC hotels can be really expensive so... More

Staying in Chelsea

Neighborhood Profile
Chelsea
Home to hundreds of art galleries, beautiful brownstones, and one of New York’s newest and most popular attractions, Chelsea is one of the city’s jewels when it comes to neighborhood life. The contemporary art scene is an integral part of the neighborhood’s identity, with gallery openings almost every night of the week and countless exhibits to explore. As a longtime hub of gay culture in New York City, it’s also a diverse district with a vibrant nightlife scene. The opening of the High Line, an abandoned elevated train track transformed into a world-class pedestrian park, gave this neighborhood new life as a tourist destination. The High Line provides visitors with a tranquil, elevated space with incomparable views, providing an unparalleled way to experience the city.
