A pleasant, good value hotel, spotlessly clean and well presented. Rooms are a little small but, hey, it's just somewhere to sleep? Staff were very helpful and accommodating and the hotel has a nice ambience in a buzzing neighbourhood.

When I first came in, I asked for a bottle of water for my room. After that, each night when I got back to the hotel after work, there was a fresh bottle of water. Nice touch. Nice, clean rooms. Small but comfortable with a good bed, free wi-fi, everything you need. The only drawback was very sub par water... More

The staff is very attentive and friendly. The rooms although small are clean and have all the necessities you would need for an over night stay. This was my second stay here and would stay here again.

Photographs of the Gem on the web suggest that rooms are larger than they are in reality. There is just enough room to walk around a double bed and two people are really pushed for space. A single wardrobe accommodates l person only. Only l drawer in a bedside cabinet. We had travelled from Las Vegas where it was 79F... More

Positives: Friendly and helpful concierge; clean room; clean bathroom; good/effective heating in the room; strong wifi; nice lobby; outstanding location—close to the subway; has a lift; importantly it's in the amazing neighborhood of Chelsea—close to the High Line and Chelsea market. Negatives: Walls are very thin. You can hear sounds from other rooms. The room was tiny. But I wouldn't... More

I recently visited the GEM Hotel in Chelsea. I do not have any problems with the customer service although they gave me wrong directions but it happens. So here is the problem with this hotel: 1) Rooms are super small. 2) You can hear a lot through the walls. There was a baby crying in a room not far away... More

I was there for 3 nights on a business trip. I felt happy to be on the 5th floor even though it was a very small and basic room. The location is fine and the service is nice. The big problem was having both the elevator AND the Wi-Fi breakdown on the second night. After climbing 5 floors up the... More

The hotel is 10 minutes walk to the High Line and 2 minutes away from the subway. Great places for food nearby too. The room was small, clean, and had a comfortable bed. If all you're looking for is a convenient place to sleep, this is worth the money.

First the location is very good, the prices are what gets you to book this hotel if you don't want to spend a lot of money just to sleep and shower. I have stayed tons of hotels in NYC, and paid way to much for a bed and shower. If you don't expect anything more from a hotel then this... More

Clean and functional. Location was the prime reason for choosing the hotel. Within walking distance of Chelsea Market and with a subway station a few yards away. Main drawback was lack of storage for clothes etc. If you are here for a few days it's fine but would struggle for longer. Could hear the sounds of the city all through... More

Staying in Chelsea

Neighborhood Profile
Chelsea
Home to hundreds of art galleries, beautiful brownstones, and one of New York’s newest and most popular attractions, Chelsea is one of the city’s jewels when it comes to neighborhood life. The contemporary art scene is an integral part of the neighborhood’s identity, with gallery openings almost every night of the week and countless exhibits to explore. As a longtime hub of gay culture in New York City, it’s also a diverse district with a vibrant nightlife scene. The opening of the High Line, an abandoned elevated train track transformed into a world-class pedestrian park, gave this neighborhood new life as a tourist destination. The High Line provides visitors with a tranquil, elevated space with incomparable views, providing an unparalleled way to experience the city.
