Stayed for a week and had very good experience. Pros- Great location, clean, modern refinements, helpful staff. Loved the coffee bar and evening wine tastings plus top end shampoo, shower gel, etc. Cons- small but to be expected in NY, gym was closed (unexpected) but able to work out outdoors, no room service, no vending or ice (that I saw).

I had the privilege of staying at the GEM Hotel Chelsea twice over this past month, both times for a couple of nights. The service was absolutely stellar. The rooms are nice, clean, and really comfortable. The location affords you access to the greatest dining, entertainment, and shopping in NYC. I've been to a couple of different properties in Chelsea,... More

I live in upstate NY and i went away for a night with my wife. We were treated great by the hotel staff. They were so nice and hospitable. The rooms were very large for a NYC based hotel. Extremely convenient to the main attractions.

This is a smaller, more boutique-style hotel, which is a nice change from most NYC places. The rooms are not large, but they are very comfortable nonetheless. The service here is also a welcome departure from your typical NYC customer service - the front desk staff was sweet, warm, and welcoming. There was an issue with the reservation (my fault,... More

This is a very small and cozy hotel. Rooms are small, as all hotels in NYC, but they're distributed correctly, so you feel you have enough space. It's very close to a large avenue, but I was surprised how quiet are the rooms, so you don't hear anything at night. Also the curtains/shadows are black-out so it's very dark (I... More

When visiting NYC, you have hundreds of hotels to choose from. You can use any number of criteria with which to decide where you would and would not want to stay. I chose the Gem Chelsea based on its location and its relative value for the cost. When booking a hotel, I look for a few key things: - Free... More

Recently stayed at the GEM for 1 night. Staff was friendly and the location is good. But the hotel lobby, hallways, and rooms are just okay. Small rooms don't bother me--that's normal for NYC. But a bathroom with just a shower (no tub) is difficult to work with--the shower area floor was not pitched at enough of an angle so... More

I stayed here on my last trip to New York due to the great location. I would not recommend it. My room was so dated, tired, smelt of stale cigarettes and very noisy. The bathroom is even more dated and dark. I would avoid! Only plus side were the friendly staff!

Located in one of the heart of Chelsae. Rooms are a tad small, which personally is a non issue for us given that my stay was for business and there was little to no time to just sit around. Otherwise clean and quiet, bed was super comfortable with decent size bathroom and strong shower pressure. Staff went out of their... More

The rooms are small, but very clean and nice. The staff was very friendly and easy to work with. Most rooms seem to face away from the street and I heard less street noise than in most New York hotels. Highly recommended!

Neighborhood Profile
Chelsea
Home to hundreds of art galleries, beautiful brownstones, and one of New York’s newest and most popular attractions, Chelsea is one of the city’s jewels when it comes to neighborhood life. The contemporary art scene is an integral part of the neighborhood’s identity, with gallery openings almost every night of the week and countless exhibits to explore. As a longtime hub of gay culture in New York City, it’s also a diverse district with a vibrant nightlife scene. The opening of the High Line, an abandoned elevated train track transformed into a world-class pedestrian park, gave this neighborhood new life as a tourist destination. The High Line provides visitors with a tranquil, elevated space with incomparable views, providing an unparalleled way to experience the city.
