I have only been to New York City a couple of times, always had an amazing time, but this last trip definately takes the cake. I was told by some friends that the Cooper Square Hotel was the place to stay and boy were they right. The hospitality, the decor, the restaurant, the bar, the whole experience was first class.... Upon arriving at the Cooper Square Hotel, you can immediately tell the difference between it and the rest of New York's hotels. Not only from the geometric architecture but from the friendly and attentive service that greets you as soon as you get there. When we arrived, our bags were taken inside and we were asked to wait in the... More

A friend of mine recently stayed at the Cooper Square Hotel, where I met him for a drink with mutual friends before going to the theatre. I changed in his room and left a reasonable amount of money on the bed to collect later as I didn't want to go out with it. After we returned a few hours later,... More

Thank you very much for your response! I am very sorry you feel this way - it is important that we include that the guest staying in the room came by the front office in the morning and let us know that they were sure the money was not taken by the hotel, and that it should not be a... More

I recently stayed at The Cooper Square Hotel wanting it to be the Soho Grand but as it was 150 usd cheaper I decided to give it a go! I arrived with my husband feeling sulky and sullen because it wasnt the Soho Grand which I visit on a regular basis but once I'd lifted my sulky face out of... More

We stayed here for a few days after a stay at the Surrey on the Upper East Side, with a great rate from an invitation website. This was our first stay in this area of NYC. I liked the uptown vs. downtown diversity; the 2 hotels have totally different vibes in sync with their respective locations--sedate and posh vs. contemporary... More

Upon first arrival I was quite impressed. Great location, nice building and contrary to what some people seem to say, I liked the rooms. Maybe a touch small but honestly, not bad for New York. The beds were very comfortable and overal quality of the rooms acceptable considering the price. My issue was with the service, mainly their senior management.... More

I called a month ahead to reserve two nights. When I arrived, they had lost the reservation and were almost a little rude suggesting I didnt' understand where I was. We were eventually given a room and then everything seemed fine. We had to leave early the last day, but in the lobby it was impossible to find an employee... More

We had a fantastic view from 14 th floor. The location is great and we had 4 nice days in NY. The beds are comfortable but it is not much space to store luggage in the room. The area around in the hotel is a little to dark, so it was difficult for my mother at age 74 to see... More

Staying in East Village

Neighborhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighborhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighborhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
