Since this hotel was not originally designed as a Standard hotel, it lacks that certain j'en sais quoi. The rooms are well designed/stocked, the restaurants are fabulous, the garden is great, the east village can't be beat; yet it lacks the energy and excitement of its sister hotel. All okay, if you have not been the Standard Highline.

I stayed overnight at The Standard East Village to enjoy a staycation. I was pleasantly greeted by a very personable front desk. Brittany and Chris were so helpful and welcoming. After checking in I came back down to have a drink at the cafe. The cafe had a great vibe and was tucked away which made it feel even more... More

We had a two-sided window king room on the 14th floor that overlooked the city towards Brooklyn. The staff is AWESOME! We happened to mention we were celebrating our first wedding anniversary and when we came back from dinner, there was a bottle of champagne and a note from the staff! So cool! The rooms are cozy and it is... More

I stayed overnight to visit my niece at NYU and take her to dinner. The rooms are not big but as big a room as you find at these types of hotels. They are quirky looking and well decorated. The restaurant was great foodie meal and a perfect place to take a young college freshman for a special meal!

I gave The Standard a try, even though I'm usually a Marriott/Kimpton girl, and I wasn't disappointed. The girl checking me in was really nice. Rooms are VERY small, but they make the best of the space. Furniture was very minimalistic and streamlined. The location is fantastic. I wish this space had a rooftop terrace, but they do have a... My mother stayed here once visiting me in NYC. The room was smaller and more expensive than other comparable hotels she has stayed at in the city. It took a long time for her to figure out how to turn on the lights. Then one evening, someone came to her room at night and started banging on the door. My... More

Absolutely loved this hotel. The comfiest bed I have ever slept in, and with a bit of jet lag and lots of walking, I was so grateful for such an amazing bed. Loved the bar, felt very much full of local New Yorkers but you felt part of that. View from our room, wow! Long weekend was with my mum... More

This is the 3rd time my husband and I have stayed at the Standard Hotel, East Village. They have consistently superseded our expectations of how a hotel should run. During this visit, the night before we left, we ate at their cafe. (Btw, their restaurant Narcissa is outstanding!) It was such joy so see the employees swaying to the background... More

Spent NYE 2015 at The Standard. Our room was incredibly comfortable, the staff was kind and attentive and what a great location. We had our doubts after a small issue in September at the westside location, but Jane from guest experience department made my wife and I feel welcome and appreciated. Exceptional stay! I'd highly recommend

My fave place in NYC. Great for having breakfasts, brunches lunches and dinners, and amazing for stay!!! Love-love-love! View from rooftop is breathtaking, if you have chance take a chance to view. Highly recommend to even have a cup of coffee in this beautiful, morden place, with it's garden in center of Manhattan in summer or late autumn.

Staying in East Village

Neighborhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighborhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighborhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
