Rooms are tiny, air conditioning was rubbish and ridiculously loud. The shared bathrooms were a joke as the toilets were always broken. Only upside is good location but I'd rather pay extra for a room bigger than a pig pen.

Very good value.Shared bathrooms weren't great but $105 a night for Midtown East is cheap.Staff are good. For the price you get use if the fantastic gym. It's also good point from which to navigate the rest of Manhattan.

The room was a two man bunk bed with literally not enough space to swing a cat. The beds were not comfortable and the air con was loud, but it was a lot cheaper than a hotel and you get free use of fitness facilities which were awesome, a great 25m pool, weights room, resistance suite and cardio room. The... More

Stayed in a private bedroom for 3 nights and the price was excelent, given the circumstances of the city. The bedroom is small, but once you're in NYC you won't wanna stay there. Close to the Grand Central, 20 minutes walk to Times Square, didn't even use the subway. Young atmosphere.

Paid $120/night for a 2 person twin bunk bed room August, 2014. Right before our trip we noted the same rooms going for around $260/night. When we checked in we quickly realized we had been given a room on the unrenovated floor. The other floors rooms and washrooms had obviously been reno'd. Our room was tiny, barely big enough for... Bathrooms were awfully unclean, there was a cockroach on the sink one morning. Locks on room didnt work, staff were very rude, bedrooms were very small and no wardrobe. Bunk beds when described as a twin room. Only plus was it was walking distance to main areas and close to grand central. Wifi worked for all of our friends but... More

Myself and my boyfriend stayed here for one night in a private 2 bed room. We checked in early as our overnight flight got us in at 5:30am. We got to the hostel around 8am we were ready to drop. We asked if there was any possibility to get our room straight away but were told check in was at... More

I thought i'd be nice to get a 2 bed private room for our NYC vacation from College. They were nice enough to let us put our luggage in a room while being too early for check in. They also let us know that tip is appreciated. Our room was on the 9th floor of a 10 floor building that... More

A friend and I stayed at this hostel for one night. Our goal was to have a place to crash after a night of exploring the city for the first time. We were both pleasantly surprised with what we found at the Vanderbuilt YMCA. The location was perfect! We felt SO safe. Security was tight and on 24 hours a... More

I stayed here for a few days in June 2014 in a single room. Its just about the right size for a single person with a little luggage and while the room is clean, the YMCA is very conveniently located and the staff are quite nice, the common bathroom and toilet facilities could do better. There are three shower cubicles... More
