The room was clean, the furniture was shabby but serviceable, the bed very comfy, and the shared bathrooms clean but basic and small. The hall to my room smelled strongly of cigarette smoke, fortunately my room did not. The staff was about average, the continental breakfast less than average. Messages and mail delivered promptly, bags stowed without complaint. The location... More

We stayed here for 5 nights in Oct 2006. Paid extra for a queen room. A great location on w 11th street near Was Sq, NYU and the subway. Lovely quiet leafy street. Pleasant staff. Breakfast uninspired. Room looked out onto street, leafy view, plenty of storage space. Bathrooms pretty basic but never crowded. A good "budget" stay in NYC.... More

I stayed at the Larchmont for my first visit to NYC. I was originally going to stay a few nights and then stay with a friend in Brooklyn, however once there I stayed there the whole trip. The location is great - central, you can get everywhere from there and is near the 14th st. subway station which is one... More

Best location in Manhattan. Cosy rooms but great value for money. Shared bathroom was spotless and never busy. Everything was clean and had no complaints. Would return every time I visit New York.

Not much to add to previous reviewers; great location, friendly staff, home away from home.

We really enjoyed our four night stay at the Larchmont. Our queen room was quiet, clean and comfortable. (Don't forget to put the hanger on your door for maid service-one day we didn't, and the room was left untouched!) The location is perfect if you are visiting someone at NYU, or prefer to hang out downtown. We only had to... More

The Larchmont was a pleasant surprise. The staff was charming and helpful. The rooms were small but well equipped, clean and very comfortable. There were extra blankets and pillows, an in room hairdryer, and the slippers and robes were an especially nice touch. We never saw anyone or had to wait for our shared bathroom, which was clean and efficient.... More

Location was wonderful, on a beautiful street and walking distance to Union Square, Washington Park. Many nice restaurants/bars/delis and grocery stores nearby. Rooms are small, furnishings were clean but aged, and the bed was very comfortable and clean. Extra pillows and blankets in our rooms. Bring some extra hangers, we had to double up on some hanging clothers. The breakfast... More

The Larchmont features very clean, safe, dormitory-style rooms, suitable for the traveler who wants to see NY on a budget. The location is perfect for those wishing to be in the very heart of Greenwich Village. The continental breakfast consists of coffee and pastries, defraying the cost of a morning meal and the hotel is within short walking distance of... More

This is as much a resident hotel as a guest hotel; thus there is no service mentality among the staff. Similarly, common areas such as the lobby are locked and there are numerous petty rules. My room was not as small as other reviews have described, but its furnishings were inexpensive and in only average condition (the bed was particularly... More

Staying in Greenwich Village

Neighborhood Profile
Greenwich Village
Commonly known as “the Village” to New Yorkers, it was here in Greenwich Village that both 1960’s counter culture and the LGBT movement were born. Famous for its bohemian past, head to Washington Square Park to get a feel for this diverse and energetic neighborhood. You’ll find NYU students, street performers, skateboarders, kids frolicking in the fountain, and locals relaxing and playing chess. Stroll the streets to discover a mix of majestic town homes and hidden bars and restaurants that give this neighborhood an old-school residential feel. When the sun goes down, check out one of the famous jazz or comedy clubs that still packs them in every night.
