Carlton Arms is at a fabulous location, easily accessible from at least three metro lines. It is just a 7 minutes walk away from the Madison Square park. I returned past 11.00 pm one night, safe and even managed to get some food from a restaurant on the way. The multi national staff is helpful. Many things about this place... More

GOOD: local, neighbourhood, Price, Beds, Eccentricity BAD: -They don't clean the room no matters how many days you stay. I lived in a dirty room and bathroom for 9 days. And I pay more for a room with bathroom. Awful! -The stairs even for the first floor. -The staff dont give much attention.

One our favorite places to stay in NYC. The artwork is great - each room themed by a different artist. We opt for a room with bathroom as opposed to some that have shared bathroom down the hall. (I did mention it's not for everyone). This hotel is a fun room at a good rage in NYC. The staff are... More

This is my go-to spot when visitors ask for recommendations. Each room is decorated/designed/executed by a different, talented artist and each floor's hallway has a different theme. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. It's also a great place for couples. TWO TIPS: 1) Be sure to request a private bathroom if you want one 2) There's no elevator, so... More

I stayed here about 7 years ago on a research trip to New York and from these reviews it looks as though it hasn't changed - except for the art on the walls. Personally I loved it. I was almost 60 at the time and it brought back memories of a bohemian past which I thought had disappeared into the... More

I was hoping this booking would work out after reading so many bad reviews - it was in such a good location, and it was in our price range, and we could get a room that had three beds in it - which we needed, and seemed to be pretty rare. And in truth, it was fine. The location is... More

I think many of the reviews already cover the key points about this hotel, so I will try not to be too redundant. However, some things are worth repeating. It's unique. It's inexpensive. It's for a certain kind of person and you will know by the reviews if you will feel comfortable here. If you need matching sheets, an elevator,... More

Listen, I know there's a large chunk of travellers that want the beige linens and the generic wallpaper and the plastic cups with plastic wrap over them and the crappy standard framed art on the walls- if you are this person, you are not going to enjoy the carlton arms. if you are a lou reed-loving, basquiat-worshipping, street-art fanatic who... Depressing. Filthy. Bad vibe. I was scared in my room. My room: Huge holes in the walls. Broken mirrors and my sixth story window had this sign taped to the broken pane: "Do not touch, it may break." Springs popping out the bed, bedding worn and dirty looking. Am so glad I never have to return. Two nice things: I... More

As a first time NYC visitor, this hotel was a great find. Location is everything. it is unique and creates a memorable experience. very friendly and helpful staff. Expect the unusual, all rooms decoratively painted in a mixture of artistic styles. No TV (thank God), sometimes uneven flooring but inexpensive and did I say location?
