When I visit the Big Apple, I usually stay at this hotel for the reasons that many of the city's tourist attractions as the Empire State Building and the East and West Villages are within relative walking distances. This makes going to these places by public transit unnecessary as New York is a walker's paradise. The hotel which is not... More

This is a great place if you are looking for a budget no-frills hotel. It is centrally located provides a bed, a clean shower, a pizza place downstairs. A great home base while in Manhattan. It is a funky little place that me and my kids and the grandparents will remember for a long time to come. They already want... More

We were a little wary of booking this place beforehand but ended up being really delighted. If you prefer the standard Holiday Inn style, where everything is spotless, shiny and working in perfect order (and why wouldn’t you?) then this place probably isn’t for you. Our room on the top floor was a little on the dusty side and certainly... More

It was my first time in NYC and I stayed here for 3 nights. When we arrived there, there was a misunderstanding about our room. But the guy in reception tried to help us and he found an empty room like we wanted. First of all, Carlton Arms has perfect location. It's so close to tourist attractions, good restaurants and... If your one for just calling your hotel "base" then this is perfect. It oozed personality and the location was perfect, central for almost anything. If I was to come back to New York (I'm sure I will) I'd most certainly stay here again. To be honest we didn't spend much time here as we were out all day, came... More

Carlton Arms is at a fabulous location, easily accessible from at least three metro lines. It is just a 7 minutes walk away from the Madison Square park. I returned past 11.00 pm one night, safe and even managed to get some food from a restaurant on the way. The multi national staff is helpful. Many things about this place... More

GOOD: local, neighbourhood, Price, Beds, Eccentricity BAD: -They don't clean the room no matters how many days you stay. I lived in a dirty room and bathroom for 9 days. And I pay more for a room with bathroom. Awful! -The stairs even for the first floor. -The staff dont give much attention.

One our favorite places to stay in NYC. The artwork is great - each room themed by a different artist. We opt for a room with bathroom as opposed to some that have shared bathroom down the hall. (I did mention it's not for everyone). This hotel is a fun room at a good rage in NYC. The staff are... More

This is my go-to spot when visitors ask for recommendations. Each room is decorated/designed/executed by a different, talented artist and each floor's hallway has a different theme. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. It's also a great place for couples. TWO TIPS: 1) Be sure to request a private bathroom if you want one 2) There's no elevator, so... More

I stayed here about 7 years ago on a research trip to New York and from these reviews it looks as though it hasn't changed - except for the art on the walls. Personally I loved it. I was almost 60 at the time and it brought back memories of a bohemian past which I thought had disappeared into the... More
