First off, the name of the place has been changed to Affordable Inn. It is no longer Howard Johnson. It is behind a Mexican restaurant on the main road. Along with about half a dozen motels, this area is a little away from Torrey town. So it’s a few miles from most restaurants. But it’s a little closer to Capitol... More

Be careful when making reservations because it is listed as a Howard Johnson but are in the process of changing their name to Affordable Inn. The hotel is in the middle of nowhere nestled in between some mountains, a very pretty setting. Twice we had to wait for someone to come to the front desk because there were out back... More

When we stayed here last September it was called Howard Johnson Capitol Reef Motel. We had trouble finding the motel as it was set back from the road hidden by the Mexican Restaurant. It was a lovely motel a few miles out of Torrey. We were given a spacious room with two Queen Sized beds, desk, table, coffee making facilities... More

Location of this motel is very good as it's only a couple of miles from Capitol Reef. There are not many restaurants or stores in the area, but this is due to the general location and not the location of the motel. Staff was friendly and helpful. Wifi worked and it was okay. The rooms were in good shape and... More

This is now the Affordable Inn. The rates are reasonable and the rooms are very big and very clean! We planned on staying one night but ended up staying three nights. The hotel is located about two miles from town on the highway into Capitol Reef National Park which makes it very quiet. Our room was in the rear of... More

There was nothing wrong with this motel, but it was nothing special..... our room was quite dark but clean and comfortable and well equipped with a fridge, microwave etc.. It is located on the road between Torrey and the Capitol Reef National Park. We ate at the Mexican restaurant on the adjacent site next to the petrol station - a... More

First, a clarification of what this place is. It's now an Affordable Inn, which is a small chain of 6 hotels, the rest of them all in Colorado. However, as of this writing the hotel erroneously still appears on Howard Johnson's website. (Yet if you try to book a stay from there, you can't.) Even more oddly, the hotel is... More

I had received an email telling me they changed to being Affordable Inn, so that was the sign I was searching for. Nope. Not there. I noticed a small Howard Johnson sign and that turned out to be the place. We got signed in and went to our room. The key wouldn't work. Back to the desk. Second key didn't... More

We booked this hotel through booking.com and had to do some detective work to find that it's really a Howard Johnson's. The room and bed were acceptable, but nothing special. Got in pretty late (after 10pm) and found that many other people were active outside of their rooms. Bookings didn't indicate that the room had a fridge or microwave, but... More

A good base for the start of our drive on Scenic Byway 12. The receptionist was both helpful and polite. Rooms were well equipped and the furnishing was good. We had a lovely view over the mountains. In a quiet location, but there is a restaurant a very short walk away. The continental breakfast was good. Pity about the name... More
